Which companies in Michigan sponsor visas for security engineers?
Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Stellantis, and their Tier 1 suppliers regularly sponsor H-1B visas for security engineers, particularly those working in automotive cybersecurity. Detroit-area defense contractors such as Leidos and SAIC also hire security engineers with sponsorship. Financial institutions and healthcare systems headquartered in Michigan, including Ally Financial and Henry Ford Health, have established sponsorship programs for this role.
What visa types are most common for security engineer roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for security engineers in Michigan, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. Candidates with a master's degree may benefit from the advanced degree exemption during the H-1B lottery. Those with extraordinary ability in cybersecurity may also explore the O-1A, though it requires substantial documentation of recognition in the field.
How to find security engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters security engineer roles in Michigan by visa sponsorship history, so you are not sifting through listings from employers unlikely to sponsor. Searching on Migrate Mate lets you focus on Michigan-based companies in automotive tech, defense, and finance that have a track record of filing H-1B petitions for security engineering positions.
Which cities in Michigan have the most security engineer sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its suburbs, particularly Dearborn, Troy, and Auburn Hills, concentrate the largest share of security engineer sponsorship opportunities due to the headquarters of major automakers and their suppliers. Ann Arbor is a secondary hub, driven by University of Michigan spinouts, health tech firms, and established tech employers. Grand Rapids has a smaller but growing cybersecurity presence tied to manufacturing and healthcare.
Are there any Michigan-specific considerations for security engineers seeking sponsorship?
Michigan's automotive sector has driven significant demand for automotive cybersecurity engineers, a specialization that strengthens H-1B petitions by tying the role clearly to a technical degree requirement. The University of Michigan and Michigan State University produce graduates who often pursue OPT in the state before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship, meaning many Michigan employers are already familiar with the sponsorship process for this role category.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored security engineer jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
