Which companies sponsor visas for bookkeepers in Minnesota?
Large Minnesota-headquartered employers with established immigration programs, including Target, U.S. Bancorp, UnitedHealth Group, and Cargill, are among the more likely sponsors for bookkeeping and accounting support roles. Regional accounting firms and healthcare systems such as Allina Health and Mayo Clinic's administrative divisions also hire for these positions. Smaller employers sponsor far less frequently, so focusing on mid-size to large organizations improves your chances.
Which visa types are most common for bookkeeper roles in Minnesota?
Bookkeeper positions typically require a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field to qualify as a specialty occupation under the H-1B visa, which is the most common employer-sponsored work visa for this role. Candidates from Canada or Mexico may qualify for TN status under the accountant category. Those with an approved I-140 and an available priority date may also pursue permanent residency through the EB-2 or EB-3 employment-based categories.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most bookkeeper sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and Saint Paul account for the large majority of bookkeeper visa sponsorship opportunities in Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro hosts the state's highest concentration of corporate headquarters, financial services firms, and large healthcare organizations that maintain active immigration programs. Smaller markets like Rochester, home to Mayo Clinic, and Bloomington offer additional options, though at significantly lower volume than the metro area.
How to find bookkeeper visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters bookkeeper roles in Minnesota by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from sifting through postings that won't support work authorization. Search by role and state to see active listings from employers who have a track record of sponsoring. Filtering by industry, such as financial services or healthcare, can help narrow results to sectors where Minnesota sponsorship activity is strongest.
Are there any state-specific considerations for bookkeepers seeking sponsorship in Minnesota?
Minnesota employers sponsoring H-1B bookkeepers must meet the Department of Labor's prevailing wage requirements for the Minneapolis-Saint Paul-Bloomington metropolitan area, which sets a floor on what sponsors must pay. The state's large presence of Fortune 500 companies means some employers have experienced in-house immigration teams, which can streamline the sponsorship process. University of Minnesota and Minnesota State system graduates with accounting backgrounds are another pipeline some employers draw from when sponsoring roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored bookkeeper jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
