Which companies sponsor visas for data science engineers in Minnesota?
UnitedHealth Group, Target, Best Buy, 3M, and Medtronic are among the most active sponsors for data science engineer roles in Minnesota, based on historical H-1B Labor Condition Application filings. The healthcare and retail sectors drive much of this demand in the Twin Cities. Smaller analytics firms and fintech startups in Minneapolis also sponsor, though less consistently than large enterprises.
Which visa types are most common for data science engineer roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for data science engineers in Minnesota, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, or a related field. Candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT extensions often transition to H-1B through employer sponsorship. The O-1A is an option for those with demonstrated exceptional achievement in the field.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most data science engineer sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and Saint Paul together account for the overwhelming majority of data science engineer sponsorship opportunities in Minnesota. Bloomington and Eden Prairie, both part of the greater Twin Cities metro, also host significant employer concentrations, particularly in healthcare technology and retail analytics. Rochester has a smaller but notable presence tied to Mayo Clinic's data and research operations.
How to find data science engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters data science engineer roles in Minnesota by visa sponsorship willingness, saving you from sifting through listings that won't support work authorization. You can browse current openings, see which Minnesota employers have a track record of sponsoring, and focus your applications on companies where sponsorship is a realistic outcome rather than an afterthought.
Are there state-specific factors that affect data science engineer sponsorship hiring in Minnesota?
Minnesota's strong university ecosystem, anchored by the University of Minnesota's data science and computer science programs, creates a consistent local talent pipeline that employers draw from, including international students on OPT. The state's concentration in healthcare IT, retail analytics, and medical devices means data science engineers with domain experience in those industries tend to be most competitive with Minnesota sponsors. Prevailing wage requirements under H-1B rules apply based on the specific metro area and job level.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data science engineer jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
