ABOUT THE JOB
This position is based in a research laboratory studying thymic biology. Our research investigates how the thymic environment and antigen-presenting cells influence T cell development, and how these processes safeguard an individual’s long-term immune health. Utilizing a combination of animal models and cellular and molecular techniques, our team seeks to map the fundamental pathways of T cell development. The primary function of this position is to support laboratory operations through performing experiments, data analysis, and animal colony management. Beyond technical support, the successful candidate will be an essential part of daily lab functionality and will be mentored to design and lead independent research projects.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities:

(80%) Research Assistance & Independent Projects: Perform experiments independently or with graduate students, post-docs, and senior staff. Both cellular and molecular immunology techniques will be used, including flow cytometry, in vitro culture, spatial proteomics, NGS, and cloning. Following training, there is an expectation to execute experiments independently to generate data suitable for publication.

(10%) Laboratory Management & Organization: Serve as the primary point of contact for lab organization. Responsible for ordering supplies and organizing laboratory equipment. Manage shipping and receiving. Ensure the lab remains compliant with safety regulations (EH&S) and keep accurate records of orders and budgets.

(10%) Animal Colony Management & Procedures: Responsible for animal husbandry, including the management of breeding stocks and the euthanasia of non-experimental animals. Perform terminal procedures, including euthanasia and dissection, to harvest lymphoid tissues for analysis. Ensure strict adherence to IACUC protocols and animal welfare guidelines.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, or a related field or a combination of education and experience to equal four years.
- Experience working with laboratory rodents, including handling, husbandry, and performing euthanasia/tissue harvesting.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work as part of a research team and communicate effectively with lab members.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in mouse colony management and rodent techniques including breeding, weaning, genotyping, IP injections, and oral gavage.
- Prior hands-on experience with immunofluorescence and flow cytometric techniques.
- Previous experience as a lab assistant role involving mouse colony husbandry and maintenance.
- A strong interest in scientific research and career development in immunology.
WORK ARRANGEMENT
- The position is expected to work primarily on-site. Your work location will be Wallin Medical Biosciences building.
- The Department retains the right to modify flexible work arrangement agreements on a temporary or permanent basis for any reason at any time.

Monday through Friday, 9-5pm
