Which technology companies in Nebraska sponsor F-1 OPT visas?
Several Nebraska employers have a track record of hiring F-1 OPT students in technology roles. In Omaha, companies like Hudl, PaymentSpring, Mutual of Omaha, and First Data (now Fiserv) have sponsored international candidates in software and data positions. Lincoln's tech community, anchored by companies such as Nelnet and Sandhills Global, also sees regular OPT hiring. University research labs at the University of Nebraska are another consistent source.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most technology F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Omaha accounts for the majority of Nebraska's technology hiring, driven by its financial services sector, insurance industry technology teams, and a growing startup ecosystem in the Aksarben Village and Midtown corridors. Lincoln is the second-largest market, particularly for software development and IT roles tied to the University of Nebraska system and companies like Nelnet. Outside these two cities, technology OPT opportunities are limited.
What types of technology roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship in Nebraska?
Roles directly tied to a student's degree field qualify for OPT. In Nebraska's technology sector, software engineering, web development, data science, cybersecurity, IT systems administration, and QA engineering are the most common qualifying positions. STEM OPT extension eligibility applies to degrees in computer science, information systems, and engineering disciplines, allowing a 24-month extension beyond the initial 12 months of standard OPT.
How do I find technology F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students seeking OPT-eligible technology roles, and you can filter directly by state to browse Nebraska listings. Because not all employers advertise OPT sponsorship explicitly, Migrate Mate screens for employers with a documented history of sponsoring international candidates, saving you time sorting through postings that won't support your visa status. Focusing your search on Omaha and Lincoln will return the most results.
Are there any Nebraska-specific considerations for F-1 OPT students pursuing technology jobs?
Nebraska has no state-level immigration incentives or tech visa programs, so the standard federal F-1 OPT rules apply. One practical consideration is that Nebraska's technology market is smaller than coastal hubs, meaning fewer employers have established international hiring processes. STEM-degree candidates should confirm early in the interview process whether a prospective employer is E-Verify enrolled, which is required to qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension.
