The Assistant Food Service Manager assists with the management and supervision of the overall operation of a university residence hall dining center.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will:
- Provide a safe and inviting atmosphere, healthful meal choices, and quality service in an environment that promotes community, growth, and education of our students, staff, faculty and guests.
- Participate in menu planning, volume forecasting, and food and supplies purchasing for all meals and other food-related activities for students, staff, faculty guests and conference attendees.
- Work with team leaders and management staff on development of menus.
- Develop and communicate daily food production plans and responsibilities with the dining center team leaders and staff.
- Assist with daily food production in all areas (preparation, serving, and cleanup as needed).
- Plan special dining service events (within and outside the dining center). Includes menu planning, food production, staffing, decorations, set-up, deliveries as needed, billings for events, and clean up.
- Assist with the preparation of the dining center work schedules for regular and temporary staff.
- Assist with the interviewing, hiring, scheduling, training and evaluations for student staff.
- Control food and labor costs within budgeted and/or pre-established objectives. Evaluates and makes recommendations to stay within budget.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s or equivalent education/experience in food-related, business, or hotel/restaurant management field.
- Food service management experience in a high-volume commercial or non-commercial dining service operation.
- Knowledge of cost controls, inventory controls and food safety/sanitation programs necessary.
- Must have ability to supervise large quantity food production. Knowledge of personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and internet necessary.
- Food Handler’s permit or ability to obtain by passing the Safety and Sanitation test required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant food/dietetic/hospitality or business field.
- Experience with planning, preparation, and service of special events/catered events.
- Management experience in a non-commercial dining service operation desirable.
- Excellent skills in customer relations, team building, and communications.
- Knowledge of electronic payroll and computerized food management systems preferred.

$54,000/yr. minimum
