Which companies and institutions sponsor visas for instructors in Nebraska?
The University of Nebraska system, including campuses in Lincoln and Omaha, is among the most active sponsors for instructor roles in the state. Creighton University, Bellevue University, and Metro Community College also have histories of sponsoring international teaching staff. Larger K-12 districts in Omaha, such as Omaha Public Schools, have sponsored J-1 exchange teachers, though H-1B sponsorship is more common at the university level.
Which visa types are most common for instructor roles in Nebraska?
The H-1B is the most common visa for instructors at Nebraska colleges and universities, as most full-time teaching positions qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. The J-1 exchange visitor visa is frequently used for visiting lecturers and exchange teachers, particularly at the K-12 level. Some research-focused instructors may also be supported through O-1 or TN visas depending on nationality and role.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most instructor visa sponsorship jobs?
Lincoln and Omaha account for the majority of instructor sponsorship opportunities in Nebraska. Lincoln is home to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the state's flagship research university, along with several smaller colleges. Omaha hosts Creighton University, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Metro Community College, and a large K-12 school district. Outside these two cities, sponsorship activity is limited, as smaller communities typically have fewer qualifying educational institutions.
How to find instructor visa sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter by state and role to find instructor positions in Nebraska where employers have indicated sponsorship availability. Focusing your search on universities, community colleges, and larger school districts in Lincoln and Omaha will surface the most relevant opportunities, as these institutions file the most visa petitions for teaching roles.
Are there any state-specific considerations for instructor visa sponsorship in Nebraska?
Nebraska employers sponsoring H-1B instructors must pay the prevailing wage as determined by the Department of Labor for the specific occupation and geographic area. For Lincoln and Omaha, prevailing wages differ from rural counties, so job location matters for compliance. Nebraska's higher education sector has steady international hiring demand, particularly in STEM, nursing, and business disciplines. Instructors should confirm that their specific teaching role meets the specialty occupation standard before expecting H-1B eligibility.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored instructor jobs in Nebraska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
