Which consulting companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in New York?
The Big Four accounting and consulting firms, including Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG, are among the most consistent sponsors of F-1 OPT workers in New York. Strategy firms like McKinsey, BCG, and Bain also hire OPT candidates from target universities. Mid-size technology and management consulting firms with New York offices, such as Accenture, Capgemini, and Cognizant, regularly hire OPT-eligible candidates as well.
Which cities in New York have the most consulting F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Manhattan is by far the primary concentration, particularly Midtown and the Financial District, where the largest consulting offices are headquartered or maintain major delivery centers. Albany sees some demand for public sector consulting roles. Buffalo and Rochester have smaller but growing consulting markets, particularly in operations and healthcare consulting tied to regional industry clusters.
What types of consulting roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that align with a STEM-designated degree field are eligible for a 24-month STEM OPT extension, significantly extending the authorization period. Common qualifying roles include technology consulting, data analytics consulting, financial advisory, and operations consulting tied to engineering or quantitative degrees. Management consulting roles in strategy may qualify for standard 12-month OPT but may not qualify for the STEM extension unless the degree field matches.
How do I find consulting F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and professionals on F-1 OPT seeking visa-sponsored roles in the U.S. You can filter directly by visa type, industry, and state to see consulting firms in New York that are actively hiring OPT candidates. This saves significant time compared to manually researching each firm's sponsorship history and current openings.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for F-1 OPT consulting sponsorship?
New York's consulting market is heavily client-driven, meaning many roles involve on-site work at financial services, media, or tech clients across the metro area. Some consulting firms use a staffing or project-based model, which is compatible with OPT as long as the employer of record is the consulting firm and the work authorization is properly maintained. New York State has no additional work authorization requirements beyond federal OPT rules.
