Which accounting companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in New York?
The Big Four accounting firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG) all have large New York offices and established processes for hiring F-1 OPT candidates. Beyond the Big Four, mid-size regional firms such as Grant Thornton, BDO, and Marcum LLP hire OPT workers in New York, as do corporate accounting departments at major financial institutions and media companies headquartered in the state.
Which cities in New York have the most accounting F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
New York City, particularly Midtown Manhattan and the Financial District, concentrates the overwhelming majority of accounting OPT sponsorship opportunities in the state. Buffalo, Albany, and Rochester have smaller but active markets driven by regional firms, healthcare systems, and state government contractors. For most accounting OPT candidates, New York City offers significantly more employer options across public accounting, corporate, and financial services sectors.
What types of accounting roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that commonly appear under F-1 OPT sponsorship in New York include audit associate, tax associate, financial analyst, management accountant, forensic accountant, and compliance analyst. These positions generally require a degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field, which aligns with OPT's requirement that employment be directly related to your major area of study. CPA exam progress can also strengthen your candidacy with sponsors.
How do I find accounting F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and filters accounting jobs in New York by visa type, including F-1 OPT. Rather than manually screening general job postings, you can browse verified sponsorship-friendly accounting roles across New York City and the broader state. Migrate Mate's employer data is particularly useful for identifying which accounting firms and corporate finance teams have an active history of hiring OPT candidates.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for accounting F-1 OPT sponsorship?
New York's dense concentration of financial services firms means accounting OPT candidates often encounter roles that require or strongly prefer CPA licensure, which in New York requires 150 credit hours. Many employers in the state are familiar with OPT work authorization timelines and the STEM OPT extension, particularly firms that regularly recruit from nearby universities such as NYU, Columbia, Baruch College, and Fordham. Starting your job search well before your OPT start date is important given how competitive New York accounting hiring can be.
