Which hospitality companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in New York?
Large hotel groups with a significant New York presence, including Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Loews, and IHG, have historically hired F-1 OPT students across their properties. Major food and beverage groups and convention center operators also participate. Sponsorship availability varies by property, role, and hiring cycle, so confirming OPT eligibility directly with each employer during the application process is important.
Which cities in New York have the most hospitality F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
New York City, particularly Manhattan, accounts for the majority of hospitality OPT opportunities given its concentration of full-service hotels, Michelin-recognized restaurants, and large event venues. Buffalo and Albany have smaller but active hospitality markets tied to regional tourism and business travel. The Catskills and Finger Lakes regions offer seasonal roles, though year-round OPT-eligible positions are more concentrated in New York City.
How do I find hospitality F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international students and visa holders, with filters for visa type and industry that let you search hospitality F-1 OPT roles in New York directly. This saves time compared to sifting through general job listings where OPT eligibility is rarely stated upfront. Applying early in your OPT window gives employers more time to assess fit and, where applicable, consider longer-term sponsorship.
What types of hospitality roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship in New York?
Roles directly tied to a student's field of study are the most straightforward fit for OPT authorization. Hospitality management graduates commonly work in front office operations, food and beverage management, event coordination, and revenue management. Culinary arts students may qualify for kitchen and pastry roles. Positions that align with a Tourism and Hospitality Management, Business, or Culinary Arts degree tend to have the clearest OPT eligibility connection.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for F-1 OPT in hospitality?
New York City's hospitality industry is heavily unionized, particularly in hotels covered by UNITE HERE Local 6. Union agreements can affect hiring timelines and role structures, which may indirectly influence how employers approach OPT candidates. New York State also has specific labor regulations around tip credits and scheduling that employers must follow. Students using STEM OPT extensions should confirm their hospitality role qualifies under their designated degree's STEM classification before accepting an offer.
