Which accounting companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Colorado?
The Big Four firms, Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG, all have Denver offices and have historically hired F-1 OPT candidates in audit, tax, and advisory roles. Regional firms with Colorado operations, including Forvis Mazars, Plante Moran, and CliftonLarsonAllen, also hire international accounting graduates. Corporate accounting departments at companies in Colorado's energy, aerospace, and technology sectors represent additional sponsorship opportunities beyond public accounting.
Which cities in Colorado have the most accounting F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Denver is by far the most active market, home to the state's largest public accounting offices and the corporate headquarters of companies in energy, telecommunications, and financial services. Boulder has a growing concentration of tech-sector accounting roles. Colorado Springs offers opportunities primarily through defense contractors and regional firms. Smaller markets like Fort Collins and Pueblo have more limited sponsorship activity compared to the Denver metro area.
What types of accounting roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that are directly tied to an accounting degree, such as staff auditor, tax associate, financial analyst, cost accountant, and accounts payable or receivable specialist, are the most common OPT-eligible positions. STEM OPT extension eligibility generally does not apply to standard accounting degrees unless the program is specifically classified under a STEM CIP code, so confirming your degree classification with your Designated School Official before accepting an offer is important.
How do I find accounting F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Colorado?
Migrate Mate lists accounting roles in Colorado that are open to F-1 OPT candidates, letting you filter specifically by visa type and state so you are not sorting through positions that require existing work authorization or citizenship. Because OPT authorization is employer-specific in practice, using Migrate Mate to identify Colorado employers with a demonstrated history of hiring international accounting graduates saves significant time compared to applying broadly and asking about sponsorship after the fact.
Are there any Colorado-specific considerations for F-1 OPT accounting candidates?
Colorado's strong in-state CPA pipeline means competition for entry-level accounting roles can be high, particularly at Big Four and regional firms with established university recruiting programs. International candidates should confirm their OPT start date aligns with an employer's onboarding cycle, as many public accounting firms hire on fixed timelines tied to busy season. Colorado also has an active state CPA licensure process through the Colorado State Board of Accountancy, and candidates planning to sit for the CPA exam should verify their degree meets the 150-credit-hour requirement.
