Which trucking companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in New York?
Several large carriers and logistics operators in New York have participated in OPT hiring, including XPO Logistics, FedEx Freight, UPS Supply Chain Solutions, and Amazon Logistics. Third-party logistics providers and freight brokerage firms operating out of the New York City metro and Hudson Valley corridors also regularly hire OPT students for operations, dispatch, and supply chain roles. OPT eligibility depends on the role aligning with your degree field.
Which cities in New York have the most trucking F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
The New York City metro area, including the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Long Island City, concentrates the highest volume of trucking and logistics OPT roles due to port activity at the Port of New York and New Jersey. Buffalo and Albany also generate steady demand given their positions along interstate freight corridors connecting to Canada and the Midwest. White Plains and Melville on Long Island are secondary hubs for regional logistics employers.
What types of trucking roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that align directly with a degree in supply chain management, logistics, transportation management, or business operations tend to qualify for F-1 OPT. Common qualifying positions include logistics coordinator, transportation analyst, dispatch operations specialist, and fleet operations associate. Roles requiring only a commercial driver's license without a degree-related component generally do not qualify, as OPT authorization requires a direct connection between the position and your field of study.

Are there state-specific considerations for F-1 OPT sponsorship in New York's trucking industry?
New York's trucking sector is closely tied to port operations, making familiarity with customs brokerage, intermodal logistics, and import-export documentation valuable for OPT candidates. New York State also has specific employer registration requirements under E-Verify, which some large carriers and federal contractors are already enrolled in. STEM OPT extensions apply only if your degree program holds a designated STEM classification, so confirming your program's eligibility with your DSO before applying is important.
