Which agriculture companies sponsor H-2A visas in New York?
Apple orchards in Wayne and Ulster counties, dairy farms in the Finger Lakes and St. Lawrence Valley, and vegetable operations on Long Island's East End are among the most consistent H-2A filers in New York. Larger operations such as Knapp Orchards and Beak & Skiff have established H-2A programs, while many mid-size farms work through agricultural associations and labor contractors to manage their petitions.
Which cities in New York have the most agriculture H-2A sponsorship jobs?
H-2A sponsorship activity in New York concentrates in Wayne County near Newark for apple and cherry harvesting, Orange County for dairy and field crops, Suffolk County on Long Island for vegetable and wine-grape operations, and the Finger Lakes region around Seneca Falls and Penn Yan. These areas combine large farm acreage with seasonal labor demand that consistently exceeds local worker availability, making H-2A petitions a regular part of operations.
What types of agriculture roles typically qualify for H-2A sponsorship?
In New York, H-2A roles most commonly include seasonal crop harvesters, apple and cherry pickers, greenhouse workers, dairy farm hands, irrigation technicians, and field equipment operators. The work must be temporary or seasonal in nature, tied to a specific growing or harvest cycle. Year-round dairy positions may face additional scrutiny, since H-2A is designed for roles with a defined seasonal peak rather than continuous employment.
How do I find agriculture H-2A sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate lists verified H-2A agriculture job openings in New York, with employer filing history drawn from DOL Labor Condition Application data so you can see which farms and cooperatives have active sponsorship programs. Filter by state and visa type to surface New York-specific postings across apple orchards, dairy operations, and vegetable farms. Checking employer petition history helps you prioritize roles at farms with a documented record of completing the H-2A process.
Are there any state-specific considerations for H-2A agriculture jobs in New York?
New York has some of the strongest farmworker labor protections in the country, including the Farm Laborers Fair Labor Practices Act, which extended collective bargaining rights and overtime protections to agricultural workers. H-2A employers in New York must comply with these state requirements in addition to federal H-2A obligations. New York's compressed growing season, typically May through October, also means petition timelines are tightly clustered, so employers generally file with USCIS well in advance of planting and harvest dates.
