Which companies sponsor visas for hospitalists in New York?
New York's largest health systems are among the most active hospitalist visa sponsors in the country. NYC Health + Hospitals, NewYork-Presbyterian, Northwell Health, Mount Sinai Health System, and Montefiore Medical Center have all filed H-1B petitions for hospitalist roles. Academic medical centers affiliated with Columbia, Cornell, and NYU also sponsor international physicians through teaching and clinical positions.
Which visa types are most common for hospitalist roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for hospitalists in New York, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a medical degree. J-1 visa holders completing residency in New York sometimes transition directly into hospitalist roles, though a waiver of the two-year home residency requirement is needed. O-1A is an option for physicians with demonstrated exceptional ability, but it requires substantial documentation.
Which cities in New York have the most hospitalist sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the majority of hospitalist sponsorship positions in the state, driven by the concentration of large academic medical centers and public hospital systems across Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens. Buffalo, Rochester, and Albany also have meaningful demand, particularly through regional health systems like Kaleida Health, Rochester Regional Health, and Albany Medical Center, which serve large patient populations with ongoing physician shortages.
How to find hospitalist visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters hospitalist jobs specifically to employers who have a history of sponsoring work visas, saving you from applying to positions where sponsorship is unavailable. For New York, you can browse listings from large health systems and academic medical centers that actively recruit international physicians. Using Migrate Mate's state and role filters lets you focus on New York hospitalist openings without sorting through unsponsored listings.
Are there state-specific considerations for hospitalists seeking visa sponsorship in New York?
New York requires international physicians to hold a valid New York State medical license before practicing as a hospitalist, which adds a credentialing step beyond federal visa approval. The state's high cost of living affects prevailing wage determinations under H-1B rules, meaning employers must meet elevated wage thresholds. New York also has a strong J-1 waiver program through the State Health Department for physicians willing to work in underserved areas, which can be a pathway for those with J-1 status.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored hospitalist jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
