Job Description
Position Title: Career and Technical Education (CTE) Career Development Coordinator
Reports To: CTE Coordinator
Position Summary
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Career Development Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating career development opportunities that prepare students for college, careers, and workforce success. They are to complete a career development plan for both middle and high school students. The coordinator serves as a liaison between the school, business and industry partners, postsecondary institutions, community organizations, and students to ensure meaningful career exploration, work-based learning experiences, employability skill development, and postsecondary transition opportunities.
The Career and Technical Education (TE) Career Development Coordinator is responsible for working closely with the EC Department to ensure the special population students are being served at a level that is developmentally appropriate for their academic development.
The coordinator supports the overall mission of the CTE program by helping students connect academic learning with real-world career pathways while promoting workforce readiness, credential attainment, internships, apprenticeships, and college and career planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Career Development Coordinator
- Assist students in identifying career interests, strengths, and postsecondary goals.
- Coordinate career awareness, exploration, and planning activities for students.
- Support students with career assessments, resumes, interview preparation, and employability skills.
- Assist students with college, technical school, military, apprenticeship, and workforce transition planning.
- Monitor student participation and progress in work-based learning experiences.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with local businesses, industries, community organizations, and postsecondary institutions.
- Coordinate internships, job shadowing, apprenticeships, clinical experiences, cooperative education, and mentorship opportunities.
- Conduct worksite visits and maintain communication with employers and students.
- Ensure compliance with district, state, federal, and labor regulations related to work-based learning.
- Maintain training agreements, employer evaluations, and student documentation.
- Coordinate services and support for CTE students identified as special populations.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local CTE regulations and Perkins V requirements.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of local special populations plans and activities.
- Support equitable access to CTE courses, credentials, work-based learning, and career development opportunities.
Industry and Community Partnerships
- Build collaborative relationships with business and industry partners to support workforce development initiatives.
- Coordinate guest speakers, career fairs, advisory committee meetings, and career readiness events.
- Collaborate with community stakeholders to identify labor market trends and workforce needs.
- Promote CTE programs within the community and support student recruitment efforts.
Program Support and Compliance
- Assist with implementation of state and federal CTE initiatives and accountability measures.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and data related to student placement, credentials, and work-based learning participation.
- Support credentialing, certification testing, and career readiness assessments.
- Assist with grant initiatives, Perkins requirements, and program improvement plans.
- Ensure compliance with district policies and CTE guidelines.
Collaboration and Instructional Support
- Support integration of employability skills, soft skills, and career readiness standards into classroom instruction.
- Provide professional development opportunities related to workforce readiness and career development.
- Participate in school improvement efforts and strategic planning initiatives.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Career and Technical Education, Counseling, Workforce Development, Business, Human Services, or related field required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
- Experience in Career and Technical Education, workforce development, counseling, business and industry partnerships, or related field preferred.
- Experience coordinating work-based learning or student career development programs preferred.
Certifications/Licensure
- Valid educator license or eligibility for appropriate state licensure preferred.
- Career Development Coordinator certification preferred, if required by state guidelines.

Program Coordination
Student Support Services
- Monitor academic progress, attendance, credential attainment, and completion rates of special population students.
- Provide intervention strategies and referrals to support student success.
- Collaborate with EC staff, ESL staff, counselors, social workers, and administrators to address student needs.
- Assist students with career planning, employability skills, transition planning, and postsecondary opportunities.
Data Collection and Compliance
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to special populations participation and performance.
- Analyze student data to identify achievement gaps and areas for improvement.
- Prepare reports required by the district, state, and federal agencies.
- Assist with audits, monitoring visits, and program evaluations.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work collaboratively with CTE teachers to ensure instructional accommodations and support strategies are implemented.
- Serve as a liaison between schools, parents, community agencies, and business/industry partners.
- Promote inclusive practices and awareness of special populations within CTE programs.
- Coordinate meetings, workshops, and parent engagement activities as needed.
Professional Development
- Provide or facilitate professional development related to equity, accommodations, inclusion, and special populations in CTE.
- Stay current on North Carolina CTE policies, labor market trends, and best practices for supporting diverse learners.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel to business and industry sites for student monitoring and partnership development.
- Ability to perform routine office tasks and occasional lifting of materials related to events and program activities.
Terms of Employment
11-month position based on district needs.
Performance Responsibilities
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Perkins V Grant, district policies, program goals, and established evaluation procedures.
