Which visa types are most common for restaurant roles in North Carolina?
The H-1B visa applies to specialty occupation roles in restaurant management or corporate culinary positions that require a relevant bachelor's degree. The H-2B visa is more common for seasonal front-of-house and kitchen staff, though it comes with annual cap limitations and employer certification requirements. J-1 exchange visitor visas also appear in hospitality training contexts, particularly at resort and hotel-affiliated dining operations across North Carolina.
Which companies sponsor visas for restaurants in North Carolina?
Large hospitality groups, hotel-affiliated restaurants, and national chains with regional headquarters in Charlotte and Raleigh have the strongest sponsorship track records. Darden Restaurants operates multiple brands across North Carolina. University and hospital campus dining contractors, as well as resort properties in the Asheville and Outer Banks areas, have also filed work visa petitions for restaurant management and culinary specialist positions.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most restaurant sponsorship jobs?
Charlotte leads the state for restaurant visa sponsorship activity, driven by its size and concentration of hotel-branded dining and corporate hospitality operations. Raleigh and Durham follow, partly due to the Research Triangle's growing population and active food scene. Asheville stands out for independent and upscale dining, while coastal resort areas see seasonal demand that sometimes results in H-2B sponsorship from employers along the Outer Banks.
How to find restaurant visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters restaurant roles in North Carolina by visa sponsorship willingness, so you are not sorting through listings that won't consider work authorization. Search for restaurant positions on Migrate Mate and filter by North Carolina to see employers in Charlotte, Raleigh, Asheville, and other markets who have indicated they are open to sponsoring qualified candidates.
Are there state-specific factors that affect restaurant visa sponsorship in North Carolina?
North Carolina does not impose additional state-level visa requirements on top of federal rules, but employers must still meet Department of Labor prevailing wage standards for the specific metro area where the restaurant operates. Wage benchmarks differ between Charlotte, Raleigh, and smaller markets, which can affect which roles qualify for H-1B sponsorship. The state's hospitality growth, particularly around its university towns and mountain resort areas, has supported a steady employer interest in international hiring.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored restaurant jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
