The Department of Biological Sciences at Bowling Green State University invites applications for a Qualified Rank Faculty (Assistant Teaching Professor) position with a start date of 08/09/2027. This is a full-time, 9-month academic appointment for individuals with demonstrated teaching experience in general biology education and microbiology.

The Department of Biological Sciences is an academic unit with 24 full-time active faculty, who conduct advanced research in a wide range of biological fields with significant impact on society. Annually, our program trains over 600 undergraduate majors and approximately 60 MS and PhD students. Our program emphasizes implementation of novel teaching and learning approaches and experiential learning through undergraduate research experiences and graduate research training.
The Department of Biological Sciences is located within the College of Arts and Sciences. The vision for our college, aligned with the university’s strategic plan, is to ensure that our students graduate career-ready to meet the world’s challenges, and that our faculty research and creative activity contribute to the public good. We achieve this through robust collaboration across departmental boundaries, with particular attention given to increasing experiential learning for our undergraduate and graduate students and connecting our scholarly and creative work to the needs of our region. Essential Functions
The primary responsibilities of the position are (1) to teach classes in introductory biology for majors and non-majors, and (2) classes in microbiology for health and nursing majors, which could include teaching and/or coordinating laboratory sections. Providing service to the department, college, or university is also expected.
Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s in Biological Sciences or related area (e.g., microbiology).
• Two semesters of college-level teaching experience as a Teaching Assistant.
• Demonstrated background (e.g., courses taken, teaching experience, research) in any biological discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
• Doctoral degree in Biological Sciences or related area (e.g., microbiology).
• Two semesters of college-level teaching experience as an instructor of record.
• Experience coordinating Teaching Assistants assigned to course labs or recitation sections.
