Which companies in Oklahoma sponsor visas for backend software engineers?
Oklahoma's largest visa sponsors for backend software engineering roles include Devon Energy, ONEOK, and Paycom, which has become one of the state's most active tech employers. Defense contractors with Oklahoma City and Tulsa footprints, such as L3Harris and AAR Corp, also sponsor backend engineers. Larger national employers with Oklahoma offices, including Deloitte and Accenture, file H-1B petitions for backend roles as well.
What visa types are most common for backend software engineers in Oklahoma?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for backend software engineers in Oklahoma, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Some engineers at Oklahoma's energy and manufacturing firms also enter on L-1B intracompany transferee visas. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN status under the USMCA for software engineering roles.
Which Oklahoma cities have the most backend software engineer visa sponsorship jobs?
Oklahoma City accounts for the majority of backend software engineer sponsorship activity, driven by Paycom's headquarters, the energy sector, and a cluster of fintech and healthcare tech companies. Tulsa is the second most active market, with ONEOK, Williams Companies, and a growing startup ecosystem anchored by the Tulsa Innovation Labs initiative. Norman and Stillwater occasionally have openings tied to university-affiliated research and government contracting.
How to find backend software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Oklahoma?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to search backend software engineer roles in Oklahoma without sorting through positions that don't support international candidates. You can filter by state and role type to surface openings at Oklahoma City and Tulsa employers who have an active H-1B sponsorship history. Setting up alerts on Migrate Mate ensures you see new Oklahoma backend engineering postings as they appear.
Are there state-specific considerations for backend software engineers seeking sponsorship in Oklahoma?
Oklahoma's energy industry creates backend engineering demand that differs from coastal tech markets. Many roles involve data infrastructure, real-time pipeline monitoring systems, or enterprise resource planning, so experience in those areas strengthens applications at firms like Devon Energy or ONEOK. The University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University produce engineering graduates who sometimes transition from OPT to H-1B sponsorship with in-state employers, meaning some Oklahoma companies have established sponsorship processes already in place.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored backend software engineer jobs in Oklahoma?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
