Which companies sponsor visas for structural engineers in Oklahoma?
Engineering and infrastructure firms with a track record of H-1B sponsorship for structural engineers in Oklahoma include Garver, Terracon, SAIC, and Burns & McDonnell. Energy sector companies with Oklahoma operations, including those tied to oil, gas, and utility infrastructure, also hire structural engineers and have sponsored international candidates. Sponsorship decisions vary by project pipeline and individual hiring need, so availability changes year to year.
Which visa types are most common for structural engineer roles in Oklahoma?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for structural engineers in Oklahoma, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. The O-1A is an option for engineers with exceptional recognition in their field. Candidates from Canada and Mexico may also qualify for TN status under the USMCA, which lists engineers as an eligible profession.
Which cities in Oklahoma have the most structural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Oklahoma City and Tulsa account for the large majority of structural engineering positions in the state. Oklahoma City draws demand from state government projects, commercial construction, and energy infrastructure. Tulsa, historically tied to the oil and gas industry, also has a strong base of civil and structural engineering firms. Smaller markets like Norman and Edmond occasionally post openings tied to university-adjacent or municipal projects.
How to find structural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Oklahoma?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify structural engineer roles in Oklahoma where employers are open to sponsoring international candidates. Rather than manually screening hundreds of postings, you can browse Migrate Mate's Oklahoma structural engineer listings to find positions from firms that have sponsored H-1B or other work visas, saving significant time in your search.
Are there state-specific factors structural engineers should know about working in Oklahoma?
Oklahoma requires a Professional Engineer license for engineers who offer services to the public, issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Foreign-educated candidates must have their credentials evaluated for equivalency. The state's engineering demand is closely tied to energy sector cycles, meaning hiring activity for structural roles often tracks with oil and gas investment trends, particularly in the Tulsa corridor.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural engineer jobs in Oklahoma?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
