Which companies sponsor visas for structural engineers in Texas?
Large engineering and construction firms with significant Texas operations are the most consistent sponsors for structural engineers. Companies like Jacobs, AECOM, Burns & McDonnell, KCI Technologies, and Zachry Group have histories of H-1B filings for engineering roles. Energy infrastructure firms and petrochemical project contractors in the Houston area also regularly sponsor structural engineers due to the specialized nature of the work.
Which visa types are most common for structural engineer roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for structural engineers in Texas, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. Applicants with a Canadian or Mexican citizenship may pursue the TN visa under the USMCA, which covers engineers and does not require lottery selection. Some senior specialists pursue the O-1A if their credentials are exceptionally distinguished.
Which cities in Texas have the most structural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads Texas for structural engineer sponsorship jobs, anchored by its energy, petrochemical, and offshore infrastructure sectors. Dallas-Fort Worth follows closely, with strong demand from transportation, commercial development, and data center construction projects. Austin's rapid urban growth has increased demand for structural engineers, particularly in mixed-use and tech campus development. San Antonio also has a steady pipeline through federal and military infrastructure projects at Joint Base San Antonio.
How to find structural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international engineers seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S., with job listings filtered by role and state. For structural engineers targeting Texas, you can browse verified sponsorship opportunities across Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio on Migrate Mate, rather than sorting through unfiltered listings that don't confirm sponsorship availability. Filtering by role and location narrows results to employers actively open to international candidates.
Are there state-specific factors structural engineers should know when targeting Texas sponsorship jobs?
Texas does not impose a state income tax, which is relevant context when evaluating compensation packages. Structural engineers in Texas often work under the jurisdiction of the Texas Board of Professional Engineers, and employers may prefer or require a Professional Engineer license, which can affect how roles are classified for H-1B specialty occupation purposes. The energy and petrochemical corridor around Houston creates demand for structural engineers with industrial facility experience, which is a distinct specialization from typical commercial or residential structural work.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural engineer jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
