Which companies sponsor visas for software developers in Pennsylvania?
Several large Pennsylvania employers have consistent track records of sponsoring work visas for software developers. Comcast, SAP America, and Vanguard in the Philadelphia area are among the most active sponsors. In Pittsburgh, companies tied to the robotics and AI research community, along with healthcare technology firms like UPMC's technology division, regularly file H-1B petitions. Mid-size software firms and consulting companies in both cities also sponsor regularly.
Which visa types are most common for software developer roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa category for software developers in Pennsylvania. It requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, which software development generally meets when a specific degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field is required. Some developers also enter on L-1 visas through intracompany transfers, particularly at multinational firms like SAP America with a significant Pennsylvania presence.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most software developer sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia and Pittsburgh account for the vast majority of software developer visa sponsorship activity in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia draws sponsors from fintech, healthcare IT, and media technology, with companies like Comcast headquartered there. Pittsburgh's strength comes from its AI, robotics, and autonomous systems clusters, bolstered by Carnegie Mellon University's research output. Smaller tech communities exist in Harrisburg and the suburbs of Philadelphia, but sponsorship volume there is lower.
How to find software developer visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for software developer roles in Pennsylvania without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can narrow results by city, focusing on Philadelphia or Pittsburgh where sponsorship activity is highest. Migrate Mate's listings are curated for international candidates, so the roles shown are from employers actively open to sponsoring work visas for software developers.
Are there any Pennsylvania-specific considerations for software developers seeking visa sponsorship?
Pennsylvania's two main tech hubs have distinct hiring patterns worth knowing. Pittsburgh's ecosystem is heavily influenced by Carnegie Mellon and University of Pittsburgh graduates, meaning employers there are well-practiced at sponsoring international talent, particularly in AI and machine learning roles. Philadelphia's fintech and healthcare IT employers tend to require familiarity with regulated industries. For both markets, the Department of Labor's prevailing wage requirements apply, and employers must certify that sponsoring a developer won't adversely affect local wages.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software developer jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
