Which technology companies sponsor H-1B visas in Puerto Rico?
H-1B sponsorship in Puerto Rico's technology sector comes primarily from companies like Evertec, a payment technology firm headquartered in San Juan, Triple-S Management, and federal IT contractors serving government agencies on the island. Larger multinational firms with Puerto Rico offices, including Microsoft and IBM, have also filed H-1B petitions for technology roles based there.
Which cities in Puerto Rico have the most technology H-1B sponsorship jobs?
San Juan accounts for the overwhelming majority of technology H-1B sponsorship activity in Puerto Rico. The metro area, including Guaynabo and Bayamón, hosts most of the island's financial technology firms, managed IT service providers, and federal contractors. Smaller pockets of tech hiring exist in Ponce and Caguas, but San Juan remains the primary hub for sponsored roles.
What types of technology roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Puerto Rico?
Roles that consistently qualify include software engineers, systems analysts, cybersecurity specialists, database administrators, network engineers, and IT project managers. These positions require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a closely related field, satisfying the specialty occupation standard USCIS uses to evaluate H-1B petitions. General IT support roles without a degree requirement typically do not qualify.
How do I find technology H-1B sponsorship jobs in Puerto Rico?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters technology H-1B sponsorship jobs in Puerto Rico by employer, role type, and location. Because Puerto Rico's tech market is smaller than mainland hubs, setting up alerts on Migrate Mate for San Juan-based roles in software engineering, cybersecurity, and IT systems gives you early visibility into openings at companies with active H-1B sponsorship histories.
Are there any Puerto Rico-specific considerations for H-1B technology workers?
Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, so H-1B rules apply identically to those on the mainland. One practical consideration is that the island's tech employer pool is smaller, meaning fewer companies file H-1B petitions annually. Workers already in H-1B status can transfer to a Puerto Rico-based employer through a standard portability petition, but the volume of cap-subject filings originating from the island is limited compared to mainland tech hubs.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B technology jobs in Puerto Rico?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
