Which companies sponsor visas for software quality assurance engineers in South Carolina?
Federal contractors and defense technology firms are the most active visa sponsors for software quality assurance roles in South Carolina. Companies like Booz Allen Hamilton, SAIC, and Leidos have filed H-1B petitions for QA engineers in the Columbia area. Greenville-based manufacturing technology firms, including suppliers to BMW and Michelin's digital operations, have also sponsored QA professionals. Sponsorship activity is concentrated among larger enterprises rather than small software shops.
Which visa types are most common for software quality assurance roles in South Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software quality assurance professionals in South Carolina, as QA engineer roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Candidates from Australia may pursue the E-3 visa. Those with extraordinary ability credentials may qualify for the O-1. TN status covers Canadian and Mexican nationals working in qualifying engineering roles.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most software quality assurance sponsorship jobs?
Columbia has the highest concentration of software quality assurance sponsorship opportunities in South Carolina, driven by state government IT contracts and federal agency work. Greenville is a secondary hub, particularly for QA roles tied to advanced manufacturing, automotive software, and industrial automation. Charleston has grown as a tech employment center with fintech startups and defense contractors establishing operations there. Smaller activity exists in Spartanburg and the Research Triangle-adjacent Upstate region.
How to find software quality assurance visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters software quality assurance jobs in South Carolina by visa sponsorship availability, saving significant time compared to manually screening general job postings. Because many South Carolina QA roles sit within federal contractors or large manufacturers, searching Migrate Mate for H-1B-sponsoring employers in Columbia and Greenville is a practical starting point. Setting alerts for new postings in South Carolina ensures you see relevant roles as they appear.
Are there state-specific factors that affect software quality assurance hiring and sponsorship in South Carolina?
South Carolina's QA job market is heavily influenced by the state's federal contracting sector, which means many sponsoring employers require security clearance eligibility, a factor that can complicate visa sponsorship since clearances are generally unavailable to non-U.S. citizens. The BMW manufacturing plant in Spartanburg and Michelin's North American headquarters in Greenville have created demand for embedded and manufacturing QA engineers specifically. Clemson University and the University of South Carolina also supply engineering talent that shapes employer hiring expectations in the state.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software quality assurance jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
