Which companies sponsor visas for software quality assurance roles in Virginia?
Defense and government IT contractors are among the most active sponsors in Virginia for software quality assurance roles. Companies like Leidos, Booz Allen Hamilton, SAIC, ManTech, and General Dynamics IT regularly file H-1B petitions for QA engineers and software testers. Commercial technology firms in the Reston and Tysons corridor, including Neustar and Appian, also have documented sponsorship histories for these positions.
Which visa types are most common for software quality assurance roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software quality assurance professionals in Virginia. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Candidates already holding L-1B or O-1 visa status may also find QA roles in Virginia, and some employers support green card sponsorship through the EB-2 or EB-3 employment-based categories after an initial period.
Which cities in Virginia have the most software quality assurance sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia concentrates the majority of software quality assurance sponsorship activity in the state. Arlington, Reston, Herndon, and Fairfax have dense clusters of defense contractors and technology firms that hire QA professionals. McLean and Chantilly also appear frequently in DOL Labor Condition Application filings for QA and software testing titles. Richmond has a smaller but growing technology sector with occasional sponsorship opportunities.
How to find software quality assurance visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find software quality assurance visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia. The platform filters roles specifically by sponsorship availability, so you can browse QA openings with employers who have active sponsorship programs without sorting through listings that don't support work visas. Focusing your search on Northern Virginia's defense contracting and government IT sector tends to surface the highest volume of relevant sponsored roles.
Are there any Virginia-specific considerations for software quality assurance sponsorship candidates?
Virginia's concentration of federal government contractors adds a layer that QA candidates should be aware of: many roles require security clearances, and non-citizens on temporary work visas are generally not eligible for clearances at the levels these positions require. Candidates should prioritize employers working on commercial projects or unclassified government work. Virginia Tech and George Mason University also produce QA and software engineering graduates who enter the local sponsorship pipeline, making the candidate pool competitive.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software quality assurance jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
