Which technology companies sponsor H-1B visas in South Dakota?
Sanford Health, Wells Fargo's Sioux Falls operations, Citibank, and state government contractors are among the employers with a history of H-1B filings in South Dakota's technology sector. Smaller software development firms and managed service providers in Sioux Falls also appear in DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data, though sponsorship volume is lower than in major metro states.
Which cities in South Dakota have the most technology H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Sioux Falls accounts for the large majority of technology H-1B sponsorship activity in South Dakota, driven by its concentration of financial services, healthcare IT, and regional tech employers. Rapid City has a smaller but present tech employer base, particularly around defense contractors and IT services firms. Other cities in the state see very limited H-1B sponsorship in technology.
What types of technology roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Roles that qualify for H-1B sponsorship are those defined as specialty occupations, meaning they normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. In South Dakota's technology sector, this typically includes software engineers, systems analysts, database administrators, cybersecurity analysts, data scientists, and IT project managers. General IT support roles that don't require a specific degree field are less likely to qualify.
How do I find technology H-1B sponsorship jobs in South Dakota?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, letting you filter technology jobs by visa type and state so you can focus only on South Dakota employers that have sponsored H-1B workers. Because H-1B sponsorship activity in South Dakota is more limited than in larger tech hubs, filtering precisely by industry and visa type on Migrate Mate helps surface the relevant openings without sorting through roles that don't sponsor.
Are there any state-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in South Dakota's technology sector?
South Dakota has no state income tax, which affects total compensation comparisons when evaluating offers against positions in other states. Because the overall volume of H-1B sponsorship in South Dakota is lower than in states like California or Texas, many employers may be filing LCAs for the first time, which can mean longer internal HR timelines. It's worth confirming an employer's prior sponsorship experience during the interview process.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B technology jobs in South Dakota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
