Tips for Finding H-1B Sponsorship Jobs in South Dakota
Focus on Sioux Falls first
Sioux Falls accounts for the majority of H-1B filings in South Dakota. Target employers headquartered there, particularly in banking, insurance, and healthcare, before expanding your search to smaller markets like Rapid City or Aberdeen.
Prioritize healthcare employers
Sanford Health and Avera Health are among South Dakota's largest employers and consistent H-1B sponsors. Roles in nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, and medical research frequently appear on their sponsorship filings with the Department of Labor.
Check DOL LCA disclosures before applying
The Department of Labor's OFLC disclosure data shows every certified Labor Condition Application by employer and job title in South Dakota. Use it to confirm an employer has actively sponsored H-1B workers before investing time in an application.
Search for H-1B-specific listings on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters jobs by visa sponsorship type, so you can search specifically for H-1B roles in South Dakota without sorting through listings from employers who won't sponsor. It saves significant time during a targeted job search.
Don't overlook financial services firms
South Dakota has unusually strong financial services presence due to favorable banking laws. Firms in credit card processing, consumer lending, and wealth management in Sioux Falls regularly file H-1B petitions for technology and compliance roles.
Time applications around the April H-1B cap season
Cap-subject H-1B petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start date. Identify target employers in South Dakota by January, begin conversations early, and allow enough lead time for the employer to prepare the I-129 filing.

Which industries in South Dakota sponsor the most H-1B visas?
Healthcare is the dominant H-1B visa sponsoring industry in South Dakota, driven by large regional health systems. Financial services ranks second, with Sioux Falls serving as a hub for national credit and banking operations. Information technology roles embedded within these sectors, along with engineering positions at manufacturing firms, also generate consistent H-1B filings.
Which cities in South Dakota have the most H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Sioux Falls generates the overwhelming share of H-1B sponsorship activity in South Dakota, home to the state's largest healthcare systems, financial institutions, and corporate headquarters. Rapid City is the second most active market, primarily in healthcare and government contracting. Aberdeen and Brookings have smaller but notable activity tied to healthcare and university-affiliated employers.
What types of roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in South Dakota?
Roles that qualify for H-1B sponsorship in South Dakota generally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field directly related to the job. Common qualifying positions include registered nurses with specialized credentials, software developers, financial analysts, physical therapists, pharmacists, and engineers. Positions where any general degree satisfies the requirement tend not to meet the specialty occupation standard.
How do I find H-1B sponsorship jobs in South Dakota?
Migrate Mate lets you search H-1B sponsorship jobs in South Dakota by industry and role, filtering out employers who don't sponsor visas. You can also cross-reference DOL OFLC disclosure data to verify which South Dakota employers have filed Labor Condition Applications. Focusing your applications on confirmed sponsors significantly improves your chances of moving forward in the process.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs in South Dakota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
