Which companies sponsor visas for developers in Texas?
Several large employers in Texas have consistent records of H-1B sponsorship for developer roles. These include Dell Technologies and NXP Semiconductors in Austin, AT&T and Texas Instruments in Dallas, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise and ExxonMobil's technology division in Houston. Enterprise software firms, defense contractors, and financial technology companies operating across the state also file sponsorship petitions for software engineers regularly.
Which visa types are most common for developer roles in Texas?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa for developers in Texas, covering software engineers, full-stack developers, and DevOps roles as specialty occupations requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. L-1B visas apply to developers transferring within multinational companies to Texas offices. Developers from Australia may qualify for the E-3, and those from Canada or Mexico may be eligible under the TN visa category.
Which cities in Texas have the most developer sponsorship jobs?
Austin leads the state for developer sponsorship volume, driven by a dense concentration of tech companies and a strong pipeline from the University of Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth follows closely, anchored by corporate headquarters for AT&T, Texas Instruments, and a growing fintech sector. Houston contributes through energy technology firms and an expanding healthcare IT industry. San Antonio has a notable cybersecurity and defense technology presence.
How to find developer visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters developer roles in Texas by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving you the work of screening out employers who don't sponsor. Rather than sifting through thousands of generic listings, you can browse roles directly relevant to your visa category and target companies in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or other Texas cities with verified sponsorship patterns.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for developers seeking visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects how employers calculate prevailing wage compliance under Department of Labor rules for H-1B petitions. Austin's rapid growth has increased competition for sponsored roles, particularly in software engineering, making university connections through UT Austin and Texas A&M meaningful for OPT-to-H-1B transitions. Developers in defense-adjacent roles should also be aware that some Texas positions require security clearances that can affect sponsorship timelines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored developer jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
