Which companies and organizations sponsor visas for development directors in Texas?
Large healthcare systems, research universities, and major nonprofits account for most development director sponsorships in Texas. Employers like MD Anderson Cancer Center, UT Southwestern Medical Center, Texas A&M University, and Baylor College of Medicine have active international hiring programs. Corporate foundation roles at companies headquartered in Houston and Dallas also generate sponsorship opportunities, particularly for candidates with demonstrated fundraising track records.
Which visa types are most common for development director roles in Texas?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for development directors in Texas, as the role typically requires a specialized bachelor's degree in fields like nonprofit management, communications, business, or a related discipline. Universities and nonprofit hospitals may also sponsor O-1 visas for candidates with exceptional fundraising achievements. Some employers at public universities can file cap-exempt H-1B petitions, which avoids the annual lottery entirely.
Which cities in Texas have the most development director visa sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads in development director sponsorships, driven by its concentration of major medical institutions and large nonprofit organizations. Dallas-Fort Worth follows closely, with a dense network of corporate foundations, arts organizations, and health systems. Austin's growth in higher education and technology-adjacent nonprofits has expanded sponsorship activity there as well. San Antonio, home to UTSA and several large healthcare networks, also generates consistent openings.
How to find development director visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the United States. You can filter directly for development director roles in Texas to see employers who are actively sponsoring. This saves significant time compared to manually screening general job postings, since every listing on Migrate Mate is vetted for sponsorship eligibility, which matters especially for senior roles like development director where sponsorship decisions are made at the organizational level.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for development directors seeking visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage calculations employers must meet under H-1B requirements, since DOL uses regional labor market data rather than a flat national standard. Texas public universities and affiliated hospital systems can file cap-exempt H-1B petitions, making them attractive targets for international candidates. The state's large research university network, including UT, Texas A&M, and Baylor systems, creates a consistent pipeline of sponsoring employers concentrated in specific metro areas.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored development director jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
