Which companies sponsor visas for field technicians in Texas?
Energy services companies are among the most active sponsors, including Schlumberger, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, and NOV, primarily hiring in Houston and the Permian Basin. Telecommunications employers like AT&T and Ericsson sponsor field technicians for network infrastructure roles across major Texas metros. Defense contractors such as Raytheon and L3Harris also hire sponsored technicians in San Antonio and the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Which visa types are most common for field technician roles in Texas?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for field technician roles that require a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or technical discipline. For Canadian and Mexican nationals, the TN visa is a practical option under the USMCA if the role qualifies under an eligible professional category. Some employers in energy and defense also sponsor O-1 visas for technicians with demonstrated exceptional expertise. Each category has distinct eligibility requirements.
Which cities in Texas have the most field technician sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads by a significant margin due to the concentration of oil and gas headquarters and energy services firms in the region. Dallas-Fort Worth is the primary hub for telecommunications and IT field technician roles. San Antonio has growing demand tied to defense contractors and military installations. Midland and Odessa see seasonal spikes in oilfield technician hiring aligned with Permian Basin drilling activity.
How to find field technician visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse field technician openings in Texas without sifting through roles that don't offer sponsorship. You can filter by location and job category to focus on energy, telecom, or defense postings. Migrate Mate is built for international candidates, so the jobs shown are from employers actively open to sponsoring work visas for qualified technicians.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for field technician visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons when employers file a Labor Condition Application, since the DOL benchmarks wages against local market rates. The Permian Basin region frequently experiences tight labor markets for oilfield technicians, which can work in international candidates' favor. Houston's large international workforce in energy also means many employers there already have established visa sponsorship processes and experienced in-house immigration teams.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored field technician jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
