Which companies sponsor visas for occupational therapists in Texas?
Major Texas health systems are the most active sponsors for occupational therapists, including Baylor Scott & White Health, HCA Houston Healthcare, Texas Health Resources, UT Health, and Methodist Health System. Rehabilitation-focused providers such as CHRISTUS Health and Encompass Health also have histories of sponsoring occupational therapists. Staffing agencies that place OTs in Texas facilities may also facilitate sponsorship for certain visa categories.
Which visa types are most common for occupational therapist roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for occupational therapists in Texas, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in occupational therapy. Some employers also sponsor EB-3 immigrant visas for permanent residency. Internationally educated OTs must obtain a license from the Texas State Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners and clear credentialing requirements before a visa petition can be filed.
Which cities in Texas have the most occupational therapist sponsorship jobs?
Houston and Dallas are the primary hubs for occupational therapist sponsorship jobs in Texas, given the concentration of large hospital systems and rehabilitation networks in both metro areas. San Antonio has significant demand through University Health and military-affiliated medical centers. Austin's growing healthcare sector is also expanding OT hiring. Smaller markets like Lubbock and El Paso have openings tied to regional health systems and academic medical centers.
How to find occupational therapist visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, including occupational therapist roles in Texas. You can filter by state and role to see active sponsorship opportunities at Texas health systems and rehabilitation providers. Because OT sponsorship requires licensure coordination alongside the visa process, focusing on employers with established international hiring programs is especially useful when searching on Migrate Mate.
Are there state-specific requirements occupational therapists should know before pursuing Texas sponsorship jobs?
Yes. Texas requires occupational therapists to hold an active license from the Texas State Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners before practicing. For internationally trained OTs, credential evaluation and English proficiency verification are typically required as part of the licensure process. Employers generally cannot file an H-1B petition until licensure is confirmed or conditionally approved, so beginning the Texas licensing process early is an important step in the overall sponsorship timeline.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored occupational therapist jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
