Which companies sponsor visas for program specialists in Texas?
Large federal contractors like Leidos, Booz Allen Hamilton, and SAIC have significant Texas operations and sponsor program specialists, particularly in the Houston and San Antonio defense corridors. Healthcare systems including HCA Houston Healthcare and UT Southwestern Medical Center also sponsor the role. Technology employers in Austin, such as Dell Technologies and IBM, round out the major sponsoring employer categories for program specialists in the state.
Which visa types are most common for program specialist roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for program specialists in Texas, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in a related field such as public administration, business, or a technical discipline, meeting the specialty occupation standard. TN status is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupations. Some program specialists in academic or government-adjacent settings may also encounter J-1 or O-1 pathways depending on their background.
Which cities in Texas have the most program specialist sponsorship jobs?
Houston leads in volume, driven by its concentration of federal contractors, energy sector employers, and large hospital systems that hire program specialists across operations and compliance functions. Austin follows closely, with state government agencies, technology firms, and research institutions all active sponsors. Dallas-Fort Worth is strong for program specialists in financial services, healthcare administration, and corporate operations, while San Antonio has notable demand tied to military and defense contractor activity.
How to find program specialist visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to browse program specialist openings in Texas without sifting through roles that don't support work authorization. You can filter by location, visa type, and role category to surface relevant opportunities across Houston, Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio. Migrate Mate's data draws from employers with documented sponsorship history, which is particularly useful for program specialist roles where sponsorship willingness varies widely by employer type.
Are there any Texas-specific considerations for program specialists seeking visa sponsorship?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects how prevailing wage calculations translate into take-home pay compared to other states, though employers still must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the specific metro area where the work is performed. Texas's large public university system, including UT Austin and Texas A&M, produces a strong pipeline of candidates, meaning competition for sponsored program specialist roles at government-adjacent employers can be meaningful. Federal contractor roles in Texas may also require security clearance eligibility, which can complicate sponsorship timelines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored program specialist jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
