Strategic Sourcing Specialist
The Supervisor of Strategic Sourcing is a seasoned professional who plans, implements and executes the sourcing strategy for the university and is directly responsible for all sourcing and procurement related functions. This position specializes in unique commodities requiring specific knowledge and experience. This position will serve as the liaison between the deployed offices and the core management team and will supervise the deployed offices on campus in such a way as to communicate, train, supervise, and ensure they are following the directives from the management team. This position also has the responsibility to oversee the critical operations of the organization.
What you’ll do in this position:
Procurement of goods and services
- Duties will include developing customer relations and delivering intense, personal customer service.
- Develop supplier relations and oversee vendor management processes.
- Maintain sound fiscal principles as the individual practices the core value of respect for sacred resources.
Commodity management
- Analyzing university spend by department recognizing areas for cost avoidance and cost savings.
- Leveraging spend opportunities to maximize buying power for the university.
- Analyzing spend by supplier recognizing areas for consolidation and reduction of supplier base.
Communicate, train, supervise, and ensure the deployed offices are following the directives from the management team.
- Duties will include meeting with deployed office managers and identifying key issues unique to the deployed offices.
- Serve as the liaison between the deployed offices and the core management team reporting needs and requirements of deployed offices and recommending solutions congruent with both the department and the university’s mission and vision.
Results measurement
- Duties include leading and participating in our scorecard initiative.
- Monthly reporting on key metrics within the department deployed offices which are critical to our continued growth and sustained success.
- Recognize areas where behavior needs to be changed or improved and participate in a continuous improvement process recommending areas where measurement may drive desired performance.
Migration of customer base to electronic format.
- Duties will include introduction, training and continual support for the Y-Marketplace initiative.
- Will aid in the development of the electronic procurement process as we migrate to the new, electronic format.
- Facilitate acceptance of the electronic P2P function as we integrate the paperless procure to pay system.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required:
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in supply chain management or a related field of study, plus 2 years’ experience in a supply management setting OR a minimum of 6 years’ experience in a supply management setting, if no bachelor’s degree.
- Experience in managing supplier and manufacturer relationships.
- E-sourcing experience.
- Well-developed knowledge of specialty sourcing strategies and trends by product category.
- Formally developed negotiation skills with verifiable experience.
- Proven ability to influence business decisions in the interest of safety and risk mitigation.
- Expert level of written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of procurement principles, processes and price/cost methodology.
