Which aerospace & defense companies sponsor visas in Virginia?
Major sponsors include Northrop Grumman (Falls Church), Raytheon Technologies (Arlington), Boeing Defense (Arlington), Lockheed Martin (multiple locations), General Dynamics (Reston), SAIC (McLean), and CACI (Arlington). These companies regularly file H-1B visa petitions for engineers, systems analysts, and cybersecurity specialists. Many also sponsor L-1 visa transfers for international employees.
Which visa types are most common for aerospace & defense roles in Virginia?
H-1B visas dominate for engineering positions, software development, and technical roles requiring specialized knowledge. How to find aerospace & defense visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Use Migrate Mate to search specifically for Virginia aerospace positions that offer visa sponsorship. Filter by location (Northern Virginia, Hampton Roads) and focus on defense contractors with established sponsorship histories. Many opportunities cluster around Dulles Airport, Pentagon City, and Newport News due to federal contracting requirements and proximity to military installations.
Which cities in Virginia have the most aerospace & defense sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia leads with Arlington, Herndon, Reston, and McLean hosting major defense contractors near the Pentagon. Hampton Roads follows with Newport News (shipbuilding), Norfolk (naval operations), and Virginia Beach. Do aerospace & defense jobs in Virginia require security clearances for visa holders?
Many positions require security clearances, but visa holders face restrictions. Most can only obtain Secret clearance after becoming permanent residents, limiting initial job options. However, positions in commercial aerospace, cybersecurity consulting, and non-classified engineering work remain accessible. Some companies offer sponsorship for roles that transition to clearance-required work later.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored aerospace & defense jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
