Search Medical Devices Jobs in VirginiaMedical Devices OPT Sponsorship Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
Which medical devices companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Virginia?
Several large medical devices employers with Virginia operations have a history of hiring F-1 OPT candidates, including Siemens Healthineers, Philips, Inova Health System, and DXC Technology, which supports health technology contracts in Northern Virginia. Mid-size contract manufacturers and FDA-regulated device firms in the Richmond and Hampton Roads corridors also hire OPT candidates for engineering and quality assurance roles, though sponsorship practices vary by team and position.
Which cities in Virginia have the most medical devices F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly the Fairfax and Arlington areas, concentrates the highest volume of medical devices and health technology roles due to proximity to federal agencies like the FDA and NIH just across the Maryland border. Richmond is the next strongest market, with biomedical manufacturing and clinical research employers. Roanoke and the New River Valley also have device-related opportunities tied to Virginia Tech's engineering and health sciences programs.
What types of medical devices roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that align with STEM-designated fields tend to qualify most readily for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, which is a significant consideration for medical devices candidates. These include quality engineering, regulatory affairs, biomedical engineering, software engineering for embedded medical systems, clinical applications, and manufacturing process engineering. Positions requiring a degree in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related STEM field are the strongest fit for STEM OPT authorization.
How do I find medical devices F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 OPT candidates and filters medical devices jobs in Virginia that are open to visa sponsorship, saving you from sorting through postings that never consider international candidates. You can filter by OPT authorization, industry, and state to see verified openings from employers with a track record of hiring F-1 workers in the medical devices space across Northern Virginia, Richmond, and beyond.
Are there any Virginia-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 OPT in medical devices?
Virginia's concentration of federal health agencies and defense health contractors means many medical devices roles involve government contracts, which can introduce security clearance requirements that F-1 OPT holders typically cannot meet. It's worth confirming with each employer whether a role is clearance-restricted before applying. Additionally, medical devices is a STEM-eligible field in most engineering and scientific disciplines, making the 24-month STEM OPT extension available to qualifying graduates, which meaningfully extends your authorized work period.
