Which companies sponsor visas for program development managers in Virginia?
Federal contractors and technology firms drive most sponsorship activity for program development managers in Virginia. Companies such as Leidos, SAIC, Booz Allen Hamilton, General Dynamics IT, and Northrop Grumman have active sponsorship histories, as do technology employers like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft in Northern Virginia. Checking a company's H-1B Labor Condition Application disclosures through the Department of Labor's OFLC database confirms whether they have sponsored similar roles.
Which visa types are most common for program development manager roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa for program development managers in Virginia, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field such as business administration, computer science, or engineering. Candidates with prior U.S. employer relationships may also see L-1B or L-1A transfers. Those with advanced degrees may explore the EB-2 immigrant visa pathway if an employer is willing to sponsor permanent residency.
Which cities in Virginia have the most program development manager sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly the Tysons Corner, Reston, and Arlington areas, concentrates the highest volume of program development manager sponsorship jobs due to the density of federal contractors, technology companies, and government agencies headquartered there. Richmond comes second, driven by financial services and healthcare organizations. Hampton Roads hosts opportunities tied to defense and logistics firms supporting military installations in that region.
How to find program development manager visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to roles where employers have indicated visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify program development manager openings in Virginia without sorting through positions that exclude international candidates. You can filter by state and role type to surface relevant listings across Northern Virginia, Richmond, and Hampton Roads, focusing your search on employers with documented sponsorship activity for this type of management position.
Are there any Virginia-specific considerations for program development managers seeking visa sponsorship?
Virginia's high concentration of federal contractors means many program development manager roles require security clearances, which adds a complication for international candidates since clearances are generally available only to U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents. Candidates on H-1B or other nonimmigrant visas should confirm whether a specific role requires cleared access before applying. Non-cleared positions with commercial technology and healthcare employers in Northern Virginia and Richmond tend to present more accessible pathways for sponsored candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored program development manager jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
