Which aerospace & defense companies sponsor visas in Washington DC?
Major sponsors include Boeing Defense, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon Technologies, and General Dynamics. The region also hosts smaller specialized firms like Cvent, SES Government Solutions, and numerous defense contractors supporting Pentagon and federal agency contracts. Many of these companies regularly file H-1B visa and other work visa petitions for engineers and technical specialists.
How to find aerospace & defense visa sponsorship jobs in Washington DC?
Use Migrate Mate to search specifically for aerospace and defense roles in the DC metro area that offer visa sponsorship. Focus on positions requiring security clearance eligibility, as many DC-area aerospace employers prefer candidates who can eventually obtain clearances. Target both prime contractors and subcontractors serving federal agencies, as both frequently sponsor international professionals.
Which visa types are most common for aerospace & defense roles in Washington DC?
H-1B visas dominate for engineering and technical roles, particularly software engineers, systems engineers, and cybersecurity specialists. O-1 visas are common for senior researchers and scientists working on advanced defense technologies. L-1 visas are frequently used when international aerospace companies establish DC offices to support government contracts.
Which cities in Washington DC have the most aerospace & defense sponsorship jobs?
Arlington and Alexandria in Northern Virginia host the highest concentration, given proximity to the Pentagon and defense agencies. Bethesda and Rockville in Maryland also offer significant opportunities due to proximity to federal research facilities. The District itself has growing opportunities in cybersecurity and space technology sectors.
Do aerospace & defense jobs in Washington DC require security clearance for visa holders?
Many positions require clearance eligibility rather than active clearance, which generally means permanent residents or citizens only. However, numerous unclassified roles exist, particularly in commercial aerospace, satellite communications, and cybersecurity consulting. Focus on positions explicitly open to non-citizens or those requiring only public trust clearances.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored aerospace & defense jobs in Washington DC?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
