Which companies sponsor visas for OTs in West Virginia?
WVU Medicine (West Virginia University Health System) is the state's largest health employer and has sponsored OTs through H-1B and permanent residence pathways. Charleston Area Medical Center, Cabell Huntington Hospital, and Thomas Health also hire OTs regularly. Staffing and contract therapy organizations operating across rural West Virginia counties have also filed sponsorship petitions for occupational therapists.
Which visa types are most common for OT roles in West Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant visa for occupational therapists, as OT qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in the field. Some employers pursue permanent residence sponsorship through the EB-3 category, which is a common path for healthcare workers. International OTs must also hold NBCOT certification and a West Virginia state license before starting work.
How to find ot visa sponsorship jobs in West Virginia?
Migrate Mate lists OT roles in West Virginia filtered specifically for visa sponsorship, so you can search by city or employer without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. Morgantown and Charleston tend to show the most active postings. Filtering by OT specialty on Migrate Mate helps identify whether openings are in acute care, outpatient rehab, pediatrics, or school-based settings.
Which cities in West Virginia have the most OT sponsorship jobs?
Morgantown leads due to WVU Medicine's large academic medical center and affiliated outpatient clinics. Charleston, as the state capital and home to CAMC, is the second most active market. Huntington, anchored by Cabell Huntington Hospital and Marshall University's health programs, also generates consistent OT openings. Rural areas across the state have growing demand but fewer direct sponsoring employers.
Are there any state-specific considerations for OTs seeking sponsorship in West Virginia?
West Virginia's OT shortage is more pronounced than in many states due to its rural geography and aging population, which can make employers more motivated to sponsor qualified international candidates. The West Virginia Board of Occupational Therapy requires licensure before practice, including credential verification for internationally trained applicants. OTs trained outside the U.S. should initiate credential evaluation early, as the licensing process can take several months.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ot jobs in West Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
