Which manufacturing companies in Wisconsin sponsor F-1 CPT visas?
Wisconsin manufacturers with established internship programs that have worked with F-1 CPT students include Oshkosh Corporation, Rockwell Automation, Kohler Co., and Johnson Controls. Larger manufacturers tend to have HR processes already familiar with CPT authorization requirements, making them more likely to structure intern roles that align with your degree program and DSO approval needs. Mid-size manufacturers in the Fox Valley and Milwaukee metro also participate, particularly those partnered with UW-Madison, Marquette, and Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most manufacturing F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee leads for sheer volume of manufacturing employers, particularly in industrial equipment, electronics, and food processing. Madison follows closely, driven by proximity to UW-Madison and its ties to advanced manufacturing and engineering firms. The Fox Valley region, including Appleton, Oshkosh, and Green Bay, has a dense concentration of paper, packaging, and specialty manufacturers. Kenosha and Racine in southeastern Wisconsin also host significant manufacturing operations from larger industrial employers with national CPT hiring pipelines.
What types of manufacturing roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Roles that qualify for F-1 CPT must be directly tied to your degree program and approved by your DSO. In Wisconsin manufacturing, this commonly includes process engineering, quality assurance, industrial engineering, supply chain operations, and manufacturing systems roles. Positions in automation, lean manufacturing, and product development at firms like Rockwell Automation or Kohler align well with mechanical, industrial, and systems engineering programs. General labor or technician roles without a direct academic connection typically do not qualify for CPT authorization.

Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students seeking CPT-eligible roles and filters jobs by visa type, industry, and state, making it straightforward to browse manufacturing openings in Wisconsin that align with F-1 CPT requirements. Beyond Migrate Mate, your DSO and your university's engineering career center often maintain direct relationships with Wisconsin manufacturers who have previously hired CPT students. Reaching out to those contacts alongside your Migrate Mate search gives you the best coverage of available opportunities.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific considerations for F-1 CPT in manufacturing?
Wisconsin does not impose state-level restrictions beyond federal F-1 CPT rules, but the state's manufacturing sector is heavily unionized in some segments, which can affect how internship roles are structured at certain facilities. CPT authorization must come from your DSO and be tied to your curriculum before you begin work, regardless of employer. Students at UW-Madison, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and Marquette should confirm their program's CPT policies early, as engineering programs sometimes have specific course enrollment requirements tied to CPT approval.
