Which sports companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin's most active sports employers for F-1 OPT candidates include the Milwaukee Bucks (NBA), the Green Bay Packers (NFL), and the University of Wisconsin-Madison athletics department. Smaller organizations such as Milwaukee Wave (indoor soccer) and various minor league teams also hire OPT workers. Sponsorship availability depends on role type, business need, and whether the employer is willing to file an H-1B or other long-term visa down the line.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most sports F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee and Madison account for the largest share of sports F-1 OPT positions in Wisconsin. Milwaukee is home to professional franchises and sports media companies, while Madison's concentration of Big Ten athletics, sports science research, and university-affiliated programs makes it a strong market for international students. Green Bay has a smaller but notable presence driven almost entirely by the Packers organization and its affiliated operations.
What types of sports roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that most commonly qualify for F-1 OPT in Wisconsin sports include sports analytics, data science, sports marketing and digital media, athletic training (for those with relevant credentials), event operations, and sports business development. OPT authorization is tied to your degree field, so a sports management, kinesiology, data science, or business degree from a U.S. institution is what determines eligibility, not the employer's industry alone.
How do I find sports F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa type and state, making it straightforward to browse sports F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin without sifting through roles that don't support international candidates. You can search by the Sports and Recreation category alongside the F-1 OPT filter to surface positions at Wisconsin employers who have a documented history of sponsoring international students. It significantly narrows the field compared to general job searches.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific considerations for F-1 OPT sponsorship in sports?
Wisconsin's sports industry leans heavily on a few anchor employers rather than a broad ecosystem, so competition for sponsored roles at organizations like the Bucks or Packers can be high. The University of Wisconsin system is a meaningful alternative, as it regularly employs OPT students in athletics, sports science, and recreation management. STEM OPT extension does not apply to most traditional sports management degrees, so students should confirm their CIP code with their DSO before assuming a 36-month authorization period.
