Which construction companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin firms with a history of hiring international talent in technical construction roles include Mortenson Construction, J.H. Findorff & Son, The Boldt Company, and Miron Construction. These companies regularly hire for engineering, project management, and estimating positions that align with OPT-eligible degree fields. Sponsorship is not guaranteed, but companies with active federal or large-scale commercial projects tend to have more structured hiring pipelines for international candidates.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most construction F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee generates the highest volume of construction hiring in Wisconsin, driven by ongoing commercial development, infrastructure investment, and healthcare facility construction. Madison follows closely, supported by University of Wisconsin campus projects and state government contracts. Green Bay and Waukesha also see consistent construction activity. Candidates willing to work across multiple sites or relocate within the state improve their chances of finding OPT-eligible roles.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
F-1 OPT allows you to work in roles directly related to your degree field, so eligibility depends on your major. Civil engineering graduates can pursue roles in structural design, site engineering, and infrastructure management. Construction management graduates qualify for project engineer, estimator, and superintendent-in-training positions. Roles requiring only a general degree or no specific technical background are less likely to satisfy the degree-relatedness requirement USCIS applies to OPT work authorization.
How do I find construction F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and filters construction jobs in Wisconsin by visa type, including F-1 OPT. Rather than manually sorting through general job listings, you can search by industry and state to surface employers who have sponsored international workers before. Pairing your Migrate Mate search with outreach to Wisconsin contractors who hold active federal or state contracts can strengthen your pipeline, since those employers are accustomed to employment verification requirements.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific considerations for F-1 OPT in construction?
Wisconsin construction projects tied to state infrastructure funding and university system expansion have increased demand for technically trained workers, which benefits OPT candidates in engineering and project management fields. Wisconsin does not impose state-level work authorization requirements beyond federal OPT rules, but construction roles often require site access credentials or background checks that vary by employer. Students on STEM OPT extension (24 additional months) must also ensure their employer meets the E-Verify requirement, which most licensed Wisconsin contractors already satisfy.
