Which chemicals and materials companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin-based employers with histories of hiring international students in chemicals and materials roles include BASF's regional operations, Amcor (which absorbed Bemis Manufacturing), Inpro Corporation, and Quaker Houghton's distribution and technical units. Specialty chemical producers and plastics manufacturers concentrated in the Milwaukee metro and Fox Valley region also appear regularly in OPT hiring data, though sponsorship availability varies by role, department, and year.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most chemicals and materials F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee accounts for the largest share of chemicals and materials OPT roles in Wisconsin, driven by its dense manufacturing base and proximity to research institutions like the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The Fox River Valley cities of Appleton, Neenah, and Oshkosh are strong secondary markets, particularly in paper chemicals, coatings, and packaging materials. Green Bay also hosts materials processing and polymer manufacturing employers with OPT hiring records.
What types of chemicals and materials roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that commonly qualify under F-1 OPT in this industry include process engineer, materials scientist, quality assurance chemist, polymer research associate, formulation chemist, and R&D technician. These positions generally require a degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a closely related field. Positions with direct ties to a student's major are most straightforward for OPT authorization. Roles that are purely operational or lack a technical degree requirement are less likely to qualify.
How do I find chemicals and materials F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa type and industry, making it practical to search for chemicals and materials F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin without sorting through roles that don't apply to your status. Filtering by state and visa category on Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have indicated OPT sponsorship, including technical and engineering roles across Milwaukee, the Fox Valley, and Green Bay manufacturing corridors.
Are there state-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 OPT in Wisconsin's chemicals and materials sector?
Wisconsin's chemicals and materials sector is heavily tied to paper, packaging, and industrial coatings manufacturing, which means many roles are with mid-size or regional employers rather than large multinationals. Smaller companies may be less familiar with OPT authorization procedures, so it's worth confirming early in the process whether a hiring team has worked with OPT students before. STEM OPT extension eligibility depends on whether your degree program appears on the official STEM designated degree program list, which is worth verifying with your DSO.
