Search Science & Research Jobs in WisconsinScience & Research OPT Sponsorship Jobs in Wisconsin: Frequently Asked Questions
Which science and research companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin employers with documented OPT sponsorship history in science and research include Exact Sciences, Promega Corporation, Epic Systems, Covance (Labcorp), and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Research hospitals such as UW Health and Froedtert also hire OPT students in clinical research and laboratory roles. Sponsorship frequency varies by role type and department, so verifying LCA filing history by employer before applying is advisable.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most science and research F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Madison accounts for the largest share of science and research OPT sponsorship activity in Wisconsin, driven by UW-Madison, the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery, and a concentrated biotech corridor. Milwaukee follows, with opportunities at Marquette University, the Medical College of Wisconsin, and life sciences manufacturers. Smaller clusters exist in Waukesha and Green Bay, primarily in environmental testing and food science.
What types of science and research roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Roles that commonly qualify include research scientist, computational biologist, environmental scientist, lab technician, data analyst, clinical research coordinator, and biostatistician. STEM-designated programs extend OPT eligibility by 24 months for qualifying degree fields such as biology, chemistry, computer science, and environmental science. O*NET occupation profiles can help confirm whether a specific role aligns with an approved STEM Classification of Instructional Programs code.
How do I find science and research F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters science and research job listings specifically by visa type, so you can search F-1 OPT-eligible roles in Wisconsin without sorting through positions that don't sponsor. You can review employer LCA filing history by occupation and location, which helps identify which Wisconsin companies have active sponsorship patterns in research and laboratory fields before you apply.
Are there state-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 OPT sponsorship in Wisconsin's science sector?
Wisconsin's research funding is heavily tied to federal grants through NIH, NSF, and the USDA, which means many university-affiliated OPT positions are grant-dependent and may have fixed contract terms. STEM OPT extensions require the employer to be enrolled in E-Verify, which most major Wisconsin research institutions and life sciences companies already satisfy. Confirming E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer protects your extension eligibility.
