Which companies sponsor visas for mechanics in Wisconsin?
Oshkosh Corporation, CNH Industrial, and Kwik Trip have sponsored skilled trades workers in Wisconsin, primarily for heavy equipment and commercial fleet roles. Dealership groups operating across Milwaukee and Green Bay have also filed Labor Condition Applications for mechanic positions. Sponsorship tends to occur when employers cannot fill specialized roles locally, particularly in diesel, agricultural equipment, and industrial maintenance.
Which visa types are most common for mechanic roles in Wisconsin?
The H-2B visa covers temporary nonagricultural workers and is used for seasonal mechanic and equipment technician roles, particularly in Wisconsin's agricultural equipment sector. The H-1B visa is less common for mechanics because most roles don't meet the specialty occupation standard requiring a directly related bachelor's degree. Mechanics with employer-sponsored permanent positions may qualify for EB-3 immigrant visas through the PERM labor certification process.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most mechanic sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee has the highest concentration of mechanic sponsorship activity, driven by its manufacturing base and large commercial fleets. Oshkosh and Green Bay are significant hubs given the presence of Oshkosh Corporation and CNH Industrial operations. Madison sees demand from university fleet services and state government vehicle maintenance. Smaller cities like Wausau and Fond du Lac have opportunities in agricultural and industrial equipment repair.
How to find mechanic visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate lists mechanic roles in Wisconsin where employers have a documented history of visa sponsorship, filtering out positions unlikely to support international candidates. You can browse by city or employer type to identify heavy equipment, diesel, and fleet maintenance openings in Milwaukee, Oshkosh, and Green Bay. Migrate Mate's focus on sponsorship-verified listings saves significant time compared to sorting through general job postings.
Are there state-specific factors mechanics should know about visa sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin's Department of Workforce Development publishes prevailing wage data that employers must reference when filing Labor Condition Applications or PERM applications for mechanic roles. The state's strong agricultural and heavy manufacturing sectors mean demand is highest for diesel and industrial mechanics rather than general automotive technicians. Mechanics with ASE certifications or experience on specific equipment brands like Case or Oshkosh Defense tend to attract more sponsorship interest from Wisconsin employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mechanic jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
