Which companies sponsor visas for mental health counselors in Wisconsin?
Large health systems are the most consistent sponsors. Froedtert Health and UW Health in Milwaukee and Madison regularly hire licensed mental health counselors and have established HR infrastructure for H-1B visa petitions. Federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) such as Journey Mental Health Center in Madison also sponsor, as do community behavioral health organizations across the Fox Valley and Green Bay regions.
Which visa types are most common for mental health counseling roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa for licensed mental health counselors, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a master's degree in counseling or a related field. Some candidates with J-1 visa waivers through Wisconsin's Conrad 30 program can transition into permanent positions at underserved community health sites. TN visas are available to Canadian citizens with qualifying counseling credentials.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most mental health counseling sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee and Madison account for the largest share of mental health counseling sponsorship opportunities, driven by their major academic medical centers and dense network of behavioral health nonprofits. Green Bay and Appleton in the Fox Valley region have a growing demand, particularly within hospital systems and FQHCs. Smaller cities like Wausau and La Crosse also show consistent postings through regional health systems.
How to find mental health counseling visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse mental health counseling roles in Wisconsin without manually screening each posting. You can search by city, employer type, and visa category to identify health systems and community organizations actively sponsoring. This is especially useful for narrowing down roles at Wisconsin FQHCs and hospital networks that don't always advertise sponsorship prominently.
Are there state-specific requirements that affect visa sponsorship for mental health counselors in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin requires licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) through the Department of Safety and Professional Services. International candidates must typically demonstrate that their graduate degree meets Wisconsin's academic equivalency standards before licensure is granted. Some employers will sponsor before full licensure is achieved, but the role and job duties on the H-1B petition must align with the scope of a licensed counseling position. Confirming licensure eligibility early in the process is important.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mental health counseling jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
