Mission
Speechify is the easiest way to listen to the world's information. Articles on the web, documents in the cloud, books on your phone. We absorb it all and let you listen to it at your desk, on the go, at your own speed, and with tools that make learning easier, deeper, and faster.
What streaming services have done for audio entertainment, we're doing for audio information. And whatever we're doing seems to be working. We're #1 in our category, and experiencing exponential growth.
Overview
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Core Experiences Team. This team builds and maintains the foundational services and SDKs that power Speechify's product experience across platforms. It's a critical role for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of product and infrastructure, thinks strategically, and is passionate about designing clear, reliable APIs and simple systems that directly enhance the user experience.
- Collaborate with Speechify's Product Teams to scope projects, find ways to reduce scope to get faster feedback from customers, navigate the integration/UX tradeoffs relevant to different product teams, and deliver solutions via our cross-platform SDK
- Optimize existing functionality to ship things like faster loading and more intelligent parsing by designing more efficient abstractions and improving our algorithms
- Ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and jobs using Kotlin
An Ideal Candidate Should Have
- Systems thinking. You know that optimizing a system requires end-to-end design, and you believe simplicity is valuable.
- Speed. You work quickly to generate ideas and options and know how to decide which things can ship now and what things need time
- Focus. We're a high-growth startup with a busy, remote team. You know how and when to engage or be heads down
- Collaboration. You know how to inspire, play, and negotiate with opinionated designers, marketers, and PMs
- Preferred Tech Stack:
- Kotlin Multiplatform (Java experience is OK but role is Kotlin Multiplatform)
- Prior experience with GCP is a plus
What We Offer
- A fast-growing environment where you can help shape the company and product.
- An entrepreneurial-minded team that supports risk, intuition, and hustle.
- A hands-off management approach so you can focus and do your best work.
- An opportunity to make a big impact in a transformative industry.
- Competitive salaries, a friendly and laid-back atmosphere, and a commitment to building a great asynchronous culture.
- Opportunity to work on a life-changing product that millions of people use.
- Build products that directly impact and support people with learning differences like dyslexia, ADD, low vision, concussions, autism, and more.
- Work in one of the fastest growing sectors of tech, the intersection of artificial intelligence and audio.
The United States Based Salary range for this role is: 140,000-200,000 USD/Year + Bonus + Stock depending on experience

Which companies in Wisconsin sponsor visas for software developers?
Epic Systems in Verona is one of the most active sponsors for software developers in Wisconsin, given its scale in healthcare software. Fiserv in Milwaukee sponsors developers in fintech and payment systems. Other sponsors include Exact Sciences, American Family Insurance, and Northwestern Mutual. University of Wisconsin system affiliates and state government contractors also file H-1B petitions for software development roles.
Which visa types are most common for software developer roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software developers in Wisconsin. Software development typically qualifies as a specialty occupation because it requires at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Australians may qualify for the E-3 visa instead. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may be eligible for TN visa status under the USMCA, which covers computer systems analysts and certain engineering roles.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most software developer visa sponsorship jobs?
Madison is the primary hub, driven by Epic Systems in nearby Verona, the University of Wisconsin, and a growing startup ecosystem. Milwaukee is the second-largest market, with Fiserv, Northwestern Mutual, and American Family Insurance all headquartered there. Green Bay has a smaller but active tech employer base. Most sponsored software developer roles in Wisconsin are concentrated in the Madison and Milwaukee metro areas.
How to find software developer visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate lists software developer roles in Wisconsin that are open to visa sponsorship, letting you filter by location and role type rather than sifting through listings that don't address immigration needs. Because many Wisconsin tech employers, particularly in healthtech and fintech, regularly sponsor H-1B petitions, searching Migrate Mate for Wisconsin software developer roles is a practical starting point for international candidates.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for software developers in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin does not have its own visa program, but a few state-level factors matter. The Department of Labor's prevailing wage rules apply to H-1B filings, and wage levels are determined by the Madison or Milwaukee metropolitan statistical area depending on where the job is located. Epic Systems draws heavily from university pipelines, including OPT graduates from UW-Madison. Candidates on F-1 OPT can work before H-1B sponsorship begins, and employers in Wisconsin's healthtech and fintech sectors are generally familiar with this transition.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software developer jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
