Audit Manager – Government Services
Overview
At Clark Schaefer Hackett, our Government Services team partners with organizations that shape communities—state agencies, cities and municipalities, school districts, public universities, and quasi-governmental entities. This Audit Manager role offers the opportunity to work on engagements that directly impact how public resources are managed, reported, and trusted.
If you enjoy complex, meaningful work and want to advise organizations that serve the public good, this is a chance to grow your career in a highly visible and impactful space.
What You’ll Do
As an Audit Manager, you’ll lead multiple audit engagements from planning through delivery while serving as a trusted advisor to your clients and a coach to your team.
You will plan, coordinate, and manage multiple audit engagements, ensuring quality, timeliness, and adherence to budgets. You will review workpapers, draft financial statements, and oversee the execution of audit procedures. You will build strong relationships with clients, including government agencies, municipalities, and public institutions, while serving as a strategic advisor on complex accounting, reporting, and compliance matters. You will understand each client’s unique risks and collaborate closely with firm leadership while acting as a liaison between clients and internal teams. You will also identify opportunities to expand services and contribute to broader practice growth.
Leadership & Team Development
You will play a critical role in developing the next generation of talent by coaching and mentoring staff, providing clear expectations and feedback, managing workloads, and fostering a collaborative and accountable team environment.
What Sets This Role Apart
This role is centered on serving public sector clients, including state agencies, cities and municipalities, public universities, and quasi-governmental organizations. The work is both technically challenging and mission-driven, supporting transparency, accountability, and effective use of public resources.
What You Bring
We are open to candidates from public accounting or directly from government or institutional environments who understand the complexity of this work.
Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field and 6+ years of audit experience. Strong project management, analytical, and communication skills are essential.
Preferred qualifications include experience working with government or public-sector clients, technical expertise and experience with GASB standards, CPA certification, and prior supervisory experience.
Why CSH
Clark Schaefer Hackett is a recognized leader in government audit, and this work is a core focus of our firm—not a sideline. We have made significant investments in building a strong Government Services practice because we believe in the importance of serving organizations that impact communities every day.
You will join a team that values both technical excellence and collaboration, where your work will be visible and meaningful. Our hybrid work environment provides flexibility while maintaining strong connection and support across teams. At CSH, you will have the opportunity to grow as both a technical expert and a strategic advisor, all while contributing to work that truly matters.

Target Big Four accounting firms during busy season
Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG hire extensively from October through March when audit workload peaks. Their H-1B filing history shows consistent sponsorship for experienced audit managers with 3-5 years of experience.
Emphasize SOX compliance and internal controls expertise
Companies subject to Sarbanes-Oxley requirements need audit managers who understand Section 404 internal controls testing. This specialized knowledge strengthens your H-1B petition by demonstrating the role requires specific professional expertise.
Consider regional accounting firms over boutiques
Mid-tier firms like Grant Thornton, BDO, and RSM regularly sponsor H-1Bs for audit managers. They face less competition than Big Four but have more sponsorship experience than smaller local firms.
Highlight industry-specific audit experience
Financial services, healthcare, and public company audit experience differentiates your application. Specialized knowledge of PCAOB standards or SEC reporting requirements demonstrates the advanced skills required for H-1B qualification.
Get your CPA license transferred or pursue reciprocity
Most states allow international CPAs to obtain reciprocal licensing. Having a valid U.S. CPA license significantly strengthens both your job applications and H-1B petition by proving professional competency.
Apply directly to corporate internal audit departments
Large corporations need internal audit managers year-round, not just during busy season. Fortune 500 companies often have established H-1B processes and may offer more predictable work schedules than public accounting firms.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do audit managers qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship?
Yes, audit manager positions typically qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship because they require specialized knowledge of accounting principles, auditing standards, and regulatory requirements. The role demands at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field, plus professional experience that meets the specialty occupation criteria.
What degree do I need for audit manager H-1B sponsorship?
You need a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration with accounting concentration, or closely related field. A master's in accounting or MBA with accounting focus strengthens your application. International degrees are acceptable if evaluated as equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree by a credential evaluation service.
How to find Audit Manager jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Audit Manager positions with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international professionals with sponsoring employers. Focus your search on Big Four accounting firms, multinational corporations, and financial services companies that commonly sponsor H-1B, L-1 visa, or skilled worker visas for audit professionals. These organizations frequently need experienced audit managers and have established visa sponsorship processes.
Which companies sponsor audit managers for H-1B visas?
Big Four accounting firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG), mid-tier firms like Grant Thornton and BDO, and Fortune 500 companies with internal audit departments regularly sponsor H-1Bs. Public companies subject to SOX requirements often need audit managers and have established sponsorship processes.
How does CPA certification affect H-1B approval for audit managers?
Having a CPA license significantly strengthens your H-1B petition by demonstrating specialized professional qualifications. While not legally required, most audit manager positions prefer or require CPA certification. International CPAs can often obtain reciprocal U.S. licensing, which improves both job prospects and visa approval chances.
Can I get H-1B sponsorship for audit manager without Big Four experience?
Yes, but it's more challenging. Mid-tier accounting firms, corporate internal audit departments, and government agencies also sponsor H-1Bs for audit managers. Focus on demonstrating specialized knowledge in areas like IT audit, compliance, or industry-specific regulations to strengthen your application without Big Four credentials.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Audit Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
