Target sports medicine facilities and university programs
Athletic trainers find strongest sponsorship opportunities at major universities, professional sports teams, and specialized sports medicine clinics that regularly hire international candidates for specialized positions.
Emphasize your specialized certifications and credentials
Highlight Board of Certification credentials, CPR certifications, and specialized training in injury prevention or rehabilitation to demonstrate the specialized knowledge required for visa sponsorship.
Focus on positions requiring clinical expertise
Roles involving complex injury assessment, rehabilitation program design, or emergency medical response are more likely to qualify for specialty occupation classification under immigration law.

Find Certified Athletic Trainer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do athletic trainers qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, athletic trainer positions typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship as specialty occupations. The role requires a bachelor's degree in athletic training, exercise science, or related field, and involves specialized knowledge of injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation that meets specialty occupation requirements.
How to find Certified Athletic Trainer jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Certified Athletic Trainer positions with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting healthcare professionals with sponsoring employers. Focus your search on sports medicine clinics, professional sports teams, rehabilitation centers, and universities that commonly sponsor H-1B and other work visas for qualified athletic trainers with specialized skills.
What degree do I need for athletic trainer visa sponsorship?
You need a bachelor's degree in athletic training, exercise science, kinesiology, or closely related field. The degree must be from an accredited program, and many employers prefer candidates with Board of Certification credentials and additional certifications in CPR or emergency medical response.
Which employers are most likely to sponsor athletic trainers?
Professional sports teams, major universities, sports medicine clinics, and rehabilitation facilities offer the strongest sponsorship opportunities. These employers often have established immigration processes and budgets for hiring specialized international talent for athletic training positions.
Can I get a green card as an athletic trainer?
Athletic trainers can pursue green cards through employer sponsorship via the EB-2 or EB-3 categories. The process requires labor certification demonstrating no qualified U.S. workers are available. Some may qualify for EB-1 if they have extraordinary ability in sports medicine.

Athletic trainer H-1B petitions generally have favorable approval rates when properly documented, as the role clearly requires specialized knowledge. Success depends on demonstrating the degree requirement and the specific athletic training duties that distinguish the position from general fitness or coaching roles.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Certified Athletic Trainer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
