Frame your degree as a specialty occupation match
Dealer Relations Manager roles typically require a business, marketing, or finance degree. Make sure your resume explicitly states your field of study so employers and immigration attorneys can confirm the specialty occupation requirement is met without hesitation.
Target employers with a history of sponsorship
Large automotive finance companies, captive lenders, and national distributors sponsor visas far more regularly than small regional dealers. Companies with dedicated HR and legal teams are better equipped to handle the LCA filing and I-129 petition process efficiently.
Highlight relationship management metrics in your application
Sponsoring employers need to justify the specialty nature of the role. Quantify your impact, such as dealer network growth or retention rates, to demonstrate that the position requires specialized knowledge beyond general sales or account management experience.
Clarify your visa timeline with employers early
H-1B cap registration opens in March with an October start date. E-3 visas for Australians process faster with no lottery. Being upfront about your timeline and visa type helps employers plan around filing deadlines without last-minute pressure.
Understand the LCA wage requirement for your market
Your employer must certify through a Labor Condition Application that your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for Dealer Relations Managers in your work location. Metro markets like New York or Chicago have higher prevailing wages than smaller regional markets.
Prepare documentation showing industry-specific expertise
USCIS scrutinizes dealer relations roles because they can appear generalist. Support your petition with evidence of specialized knowledge, such as certifications, training in dealer management systems, or experience with floorplan financing or automotive lending platforms.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Dealer Relations Manager role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, but the employer needs to demonstrate the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business, finance, or marketing. Roles with vague job descriptions that accept any degree regardless of field are harder to sponsor. A well-drafted job posting and offer letter that ties specific duties to specialized knowledge significantly strengthens the petition.
What degree do I need to get sponsored as a Dealer Relations Manager?
Most successful petitions use a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, finance, or a closely related field. A degree in an unrelated area, such as biology or history, creates additional risk unless your employer can document why that background is nonetheless required for the role. Some employers also use progressive work experience to supplement or substitute for a degree under the three-for-one equivalency rule.
Which types of employers are most likely to sponsor Dealer Relations Manager visas?
Captive auto lenders, large financial institutions with dealer services divisions, national wholesale distributors, and major automotive groups are the most consistent sponsors. These organizations have established immigration programs and regularly work with outside counsel on H-1B visa and E-3 visa filings. You can browse currently open sponsored Dealer Relations Manager positions on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for visa-sponsoring employers.
Are Dealer Relations Manager roles approved at high rates for H-1B?
Approval rates are solid when the petition is well-documented, but this job title faces more scrutiny than pure engineering or IT roles because USCIS sometimes questions whether relationship management inherently requires a specialized degree. Employers with experienced immigration attorneys who can clearly articulate how the duties require theoretical and practical application of specialized business knowledge see substantially better outcomes than those using generic petition language.
Can I switch employers while on an H-1B as a Dealer Relations Manager?
Yes. Under H-1B portability, you can move to a new employer once they file an H-1B transfer petition on your behalf, as long as your previous H-1B was approved and you have not accrued unlawful presence. You do not need to wait for the new petition to be approved before starting work, provided the transfer is filed before your current authorized stay expires.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Dealer Relations Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
