Target industries with mandatory EHS compliance
Manufacturing, oil and gas, chemical processing, and construction companies face strict federal EHS obligations. These industries sponsor more frequently because qualified EHS managers are operationally essential, not optional, making sponsorship a straightforward business justification.
Obtain OSHA and professional certifications before applying
Credentials like the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) signal specialized expertise that generic candidates lack. Employers sponsoring H-1B visas value certifications because they strengthen the specialty occupation argument with USCIS.
Align your degree field directly to the role description
USCIS scrutinizes EHS roles because some employers accept unrelated degrees. Your degree in environmental science, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or chemical engineering should mirror the specific field named in the job posting to avoid a Request for Evidence.
Prioritize employers with existing H-1B sponsorship history
Companies that have previously sponsored H-1B visas for EHS roles already understand the process and are far more likely to sponsor again. Migrate Mate filters jobs by sponsorship history, making it easier to identify these employers quickly.
Emphasize regulatory and compliance impact in your application
Employers justify sponsorship costs by demonstrating business necessity. Quantify your impact through reduced incident rates, avoided fines, or successful regulatory audits. Concrete outcomes make the sponsorship case internally and support the employer's USCIS petition narrative.

Find Environmental Health And Safety Manager JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Is Environmental Health and Safety Manager considered a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Generally yes, provided the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field like occupational safety, environmental science, or industrial hygiene. USCIS has issued Requests for Evidence on some EHS roles where employers listed broad degree alternatives. The stronger your job description ties the degree to the duties, the cleaner the specialty occupation argument.
Which visa types are most commonly sponsored for EHS Manager roles?
H-1B is the most common pathway for EHS Managers already in the U.S. or entering from abroad. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying degrees under USMCA. For senior roles, employers sometimes sponsor EB-2 or EB-3 green card petitions. E-3 is available to Australian citizens with relevant qualifications.
How can I find employers actively sponsoring EHS Manager positions?
Migrate Mate lists EHS Manager roles from employers with verified sponsorship history, so you're not wasting applications on companies that won't sponsor. Manufacturing conglomerates, energy producers, and large construction contractors are the most active sponsors. Filtering by sponsorship status before applying significantly improves your chances of moving forward in the process.
Does my environmental or safety degree need to be from a U.S. university to qualify for sponsorship?
No. Foreign degrees are accepted provided they are evaluated as equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree by a credential evaluation service. Australian three-year degrees are generally accepted as equivalent. Your employer will typically request a credential evaluation report as part of the H-1B petition documentation, so arrange this early in the process.
Can I get sponsored as an EHS Manager without a degree if I have extensive field experience?
Possibly, but it is harder. USCIS allows three years of specialized experience to substitute for one year of education, meaning 12 years of directly relevant experience could stand in for a four-year degree. In practice, most sponsoring employers require at least a bachelor's degree, and USCIS scrutinizes experience-based substitutions more heavily for EHS roles.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Environmental Health And Safety Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
