Target growth-stage tech companies
Series B through Series D startups scaling U.S. revenue operations are among the most active GTM visa sponsors. They need experienced operators quickly and are often willing to file H-1B petitions or support O-1 applications for candidates with a proven track record.
Frame your degree as a specialty occupation qualifier
GTM roles can face scrutiny on specialty occupation grounds. Tie your business, marketing, or economics degree directly to your role's analytical and strategic functions, pricing models, market segmentation, competitive analysis, to strengthen the specialty occupation argument in your employer's H-1B petition.
Document measurable business impact
Sponsoring employers need to justify the petition. Quantified results, pipeline generated, market share gained, launch timelines hit, make the specialty occupation and wage arguments easier to support. Compile these before starting sponsorship conversations with a prospective employer's HR or legal team.
Raise sponsorship early in the process
GTM hiring moves fast. Bring up your visa situation before reaching the offer stage so the employer can confirm they have immigration counsel and budget. Waiting until the offer letter creates delays that can kill the hire, especially at smaller companies without established immigration programs.
Understand the LCA's role in your application
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor before submitting your H-1B petition. The LCA certifies that the offered role meets prevailing wage requirements for GTM positions in your work location. It must be approved before USCIS receives your petition.
Browse Migrate Mate for pre-vetted sponsoring employers
Not all GTM job postings come from employers willing to sponsor visas. Migrate Mate filters for companies with active sponsorship histories so you're not wasting applications on roles that will stall at the visa stage. Narrowing your search this way significantly improves conversion to interviews and offers.

Can Go To Market roles qualify as specialty occupations for H-1B purposes?
Yes, but the qualification isn't automatic. USCIS evaluates whether the specific role normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. GTM roles with clear analytical, strategic, or technical components, market sizing, pricing strategy, product-market fit analysis, are stronger candidates than generalist commercial roles where any degree would suffice.
What degree field supports an H-1B petition for a GTM role?
Business administration, marketing, economics, or a field directly tied to the role's core functions are the most defensible choices. A degree in a loosely related field can still support the petition if your employer's attorney can draw a clear line between the coursework and the role's specific duties. Pure GTM generalist roles without a defined analytical component are harder to support.
Are O-1A visas a realistic option for experienced GTM professionals?
Yes, for senior GTM professionals with documented achievements. Evidence like industry awards, speaking invitations at major conferences, published articles on go-to-market strategy, or a high compensation history relative to peers can support an O-1A petition. The standard is extraordinary ability, so strong evidence of recognized expertise is essential, a strong track record alone is usually not enough.
Which types of employers most commonly sponsor GTM roles?
B2B SaaS companies, enterprise software firms, and growth-stage startups are among the most active sponsors for GTM roles. These companies often build U.S. commercial teams quickly and can't always source the talent domestically. Browse Migrate Mate to find GTM positions specifically filtered for employers with a documented history of sponsoring H-1B or other work visas.
Does the H-1B lottery affect my chances of getting sponsored for a GTM role?
If you're subject to the cap, yes. The standard H-1B lottery selects roughly one in four registrations, so approval isn't guaranteed even with a strong petition. Some GTM professionals qualify for cap-exempt routes, for example, if the sponsoring employer is a nonprofit or a university-affiliated research organization. Otherwise, planning around the annual April lottery window is essential for your timeline.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Go To Market jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
